eLearning for families

Welcome to Remote Learning!

Dear Redskin Families,

We are all a part of incredibly unique time. We recognize how challenging this is for our community and families and we want you to know that BCMS has been working hard to make sure that what we offer in terms of eLearning is meaningful, engaging, and still is continuing to grow scholars! Our overall goal is to be able to provide instructional activities that are aligned to what you would see on a typical school day. We are not asking that scholars work for a seven-hour day or that they even begin learning right at 8:00 AM. We want our families to have the resources handy so they can have the flexibility to do what works best for them.

We are available every day by email, text, or phone. Please make sure that you reach out to us if you need anything! Your child's homeroom teacher will be the main point of contact as we work through this unknown territory and as always, you can reach out to me via any of my social media outlets: facebook, twitter, or email / text / call.

If at any time, your child is frustrated by the work or the assignments, please have them discontinue the activity and reach out to his/her homeroom teacher so we can make adjustments.

Our community is amazing. We truly are better and stronger together. I am grateful to work with a dedicated team of educators who are willing to go the extra mile. We have many amazing things planned to help support and love on each other during this time.

Thank you for your continued support of the greatest middle school on the planet

Reading is not canceled!

Beginning on Monday, March 23rd we will open our very first "Little Free Library". This free library will be outside the main doors to BCMS. Simply pull up, grab a book to read, read the book, and in a few days, bring the book back and grab another! There is no check in or check out. This is a free service. Do you have books to donate? We would love to have them. Just leave them in the box! This is a great way to continue reading while we are doing remote learning!

#BCMS Virtual Lit Circles by Ms. Raeburn

Every day, at noon, I will be reading a chapter from the book Restart by Gordon Korman. You can go on-line and grab this book from Amazon for 5.99 OR you can come up to BCMS and grab one from the Little Free Library. You can also just follow along to my virtual and enjoy a great book by an awesome middle school author! You will find my reading on Facebook, my google classroom (join with the code below— this is for scholars!, and our You Tube channel)

Also, you can get a copy of this book in OVERDRIVE, our on-line library. SORA is the app you need and here are the directions to take you there. Use SORA to find all kinds of great books!

Math is Everywhere!

Math is everywhere! Along with using your BUZZ Math and IXL resources, you can also do some fun additional activities for math learning!

  1. Make a map of a room in your home
  2. Build towers and measure them
  3. Give your child a pre-determined weight or measurement and challenge them to find objects in the home that are that length/measurement and then check their accuracy.
  4. Play the Yes/No game. 2 Players. Use slips of paper or index cards and draw simple shapes or write numbers on them. Each player takes a card from the pile (face down) and holds it over their head. The object is to guess what's on your card, using only Yes or No questions (ex. Am I more than 10? Am I less than 15?). Keep asking questions until you get it correct.
  5. Play 24. Write down four numbers under 10, and try to make them add up to 24 using any mathematical operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division.) Write down all the solutions you come up with.
