Colt Corner
#TeamCMS
February 9, 2018
Colts,
This week was National School Counseling Week. This gave us a chance to spotlight our two wonderful counselors that we have at CMS, Krystal McCure and Leslie Walden. On Wednesday, our counselors had a chance to work with each of our 8th grade students alongside the counselors from CHHS, GCISD's Collegiate Academy, and GHS to help our students get a good understanding of the process for creating their high school schedules. Another resource that our counselors provide is the detailed information each week in this parent newsletter under the Counselors Corner that gives us all insight to the related counseling like events that happen on campus and around our district. Embedded in that information and events also includes the different ways that we as parents can assist our students to make well informed decisions on important tasks such as scheduling and so much more. The information that our counselors provide, and their dedication to students, is just another reason why our campus is one of the best around!

Reagan Lindamood, 7th grade
This year has been fun at CMS. I have really enjoyed basketball this year because our coaches are very nice, and we have had a chance to bond with our teammates. I have also enjoyed my classes especially when we do hands on activities like we did recently in Science class. In Science, we were able to learn about liquids and gases in their convection current pattern. It was fun because we got to do a lab burning incense in a hands-on type of way. Getting to see my friends each day is also important to me because we get to check in with each other and spend time with each other. I enjoy our pep rallies too, especially the blackout pep rally. I like seeing all of the different activities going on at school like the band, dance, and cheer perform.

Fitness Gram Assessment
Every student is required to participate in the Fitness Gram Assessment, which is
through the PE and Athletics classes. If your student is not in a PE or Athletics class, they will need to plan on doing their assessment next week during Advisory in the south gym. We will have four days to complete this task.
The students will be given an opportunity to change into their gym attire for days that will be more active such as the pacer test and curl ups (listed below). Any students that are absent will be pulled from their advisory period to complete the assessment upon their return.
Tuesday: Pacer, shoulder stretch
Wednesday: curl ups, trunk lift, sit and reach,
Thursday: push-ups, sit and reach, height and weight
Friday: make up day ONLY if needed
No gift deliveries, please.
Social studies student of the week
This week Jeremie Parker honored 6th grader - Sarah Pearson for being a spectacular student. She is an excellent and hardworking student and deserves this award. Way to go Sarah!
GCISD Kindness Day
February 15th is GCISD Kindness Day. Students and staff will be celebrating by wearing green or a Rachel's Challenge Shirt on that day.
We are also encouraging students to see how many acts of kindness we can have at CMS next week. Please encourage your student to reach out to a student in need, thank a teacher or think of their own acts of kindness they can show to others.
