Give $$ to support Breast Cancer and Down Syndrome Awareness
We will be raising money this week to support two AMAZING causes. On Tuesday, October 19, scholars can pay at least $1.00 to wear pink a shirt in support of Breast Cancer Awareness month. On Thursday, October 21, scholars can pay at least $1.00 to wear yellow a shirt in support of Down Syndrome Awareness Month. Both of these causes are near and dear to our staff, scholars, and families. Please support our efforts as all donations will be donated to charity.
Red Ribbon Week (October 25-29, 2021)
We are getting ready to celebrate Red Ribbon Week. Red Ribbon Week's mission is to help keep kids drug-free. Please see the flyer below for more information.
School Dismissal Manager--Register
If you have not set up your SDM account, the time to do so is now. Carline moves quicker when parents check into carline rather than waiting for a staff member to sign them in. I have an article below to assist you with setting up your account. For elementary carline parents, please sign in at the middle of the parking lot. For JH carline parents, please sign in at the side gate on your right. Thank you in advance for your attention to this matter. If you need help with SDM, contact Mrs. Kim Lucas at klucas@responsiveedtx.com or 936-242-1541.
Doctor’s Note after an Absence for Illness
If your child is out due to an illness that extends beyond three days will require a doctor’s note. Upon return to school, a student absent for more than three consecutive days because of a personal illness must bring a statement from a doctor or health clinic verifying the illness or condition that caused the student’s extended absence from school. Otherwise, the student’s absence may be considered unexcused and if so, would be in violation of compulsory attendance laws.
WCA Knights Soccer Team!
Knight School (Tutorials/Enrichment) Q & A
Who is attending Knight School?
All scholars will attend Knight School.
What is the purpose of Knight School (tutoring/enrichment)?
In the past, we have only focused on scholars that need extra assistance. This has lead to higher-achieving scholars' skills declining. By the time scholars get to junior high, we have seen a dramatic decline in scholars scoring meet and masters on STAAR. We want to meet the individual needs of all scholars. This information confirms that we have not focused enough on our scholars who are at or above grade level. We will be helping all scholars according to their skill level. If scholars are excelling, they will be challenged with work to continue to help them excel. If scholars are needing additional help, they will be working on skills that need remediation. Scholars will be grouped with other scholars in the same skill level.
After-school tutorials days are very long.
Knight School is a non-negotiable expectation from our district. Tutorials must occur after the school days (4:15 pm-5:15 pm).
Will I have to pick up my scholar and bring them back? Where will scholars be from 3:45 pm-4:15 pm?
Scholars will remain on campus. Parents are not required to pick up their child(ren). Scholars will be in their dismissal classroom 3:45 pm until 4:10 pm. Scholars will transition to their Knight School room at 4:10 pm-4:15 pm.
Can scholars opt-out of Knight School?
I will review parents' individual requests to opt out of Knight School. Parents may send me an individual email with their request to opt-out of Knight School. Please place in the email your reason why you would like to have your child(ren) opt-out of Knight School. My email address is robutler@responsiveedtx.com
I have multiple children who attend TWCA, can they have the same Knight School schedule?
Scholars attending Knight School are grouped together based on their skill level. Teachers were in charge of creating their Knight School schedule. I can not guarantee that the scholars would have Knight School on the same day.
Failure to participate appropriately in the tutoring system may be grounds for disciplinary actions up to and including dismissal from the school.
The information above is directly from the 2021-2022 RES Parent/Student Handbook. I understand that this wording has upset many of you. I have included this statement in all of our enrichment/tutorial letters in the past. If you have an individual issue regarding Knight School, please reach out to me via email at robutler@responsiveedtx.com.
School Dismissal Manager--Update
We are now utilizing SDM for our school dismissal and office management needs. A few logistical items have come to our attention that I would like to discuss in this post:
- I can't find the SDM App: Many parents are looking for the SDM app in Google Play or Apple Store. You have to download the app from schooldismissalmanager.com. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the front office.
- When Do I Check into SDM: Beginning at 3:25 pm parents can begin logging in to SDM. You will get a blue parent self-check-in button within your accounts to select and check in from. Elementary Check-In: Parents should check-in when they arrive at the walkway area of the parking lot. This is the pathway that leads to the elementary building or the gated entrance to the back of the Junior High Building. This is where we block off the parking lot for PE. This will reduce the amount of time your scholar has to wait to be picked up. JH Check-in: Parents should check-in when they arrive at the fence gate located on the right side of the building upon entering the circle drive.
- Do I have to use SDM to Pick Up my Child: Yes! In order to keep our carline moving efficiently, it is imperative that ALL parents utilize the SDM system.
- How Does SDM Work for Pick Up: When you check-in to the system, your child's teacher receives an alert that it is time for them to be dismissed. Your child's teacher can dismiss the child or give an alert that they will be delayed (restroom, accident, etc.). The check-in admin in the parking lot receives the alert for check-in and the status of your scholar. Once your child is outside, they are directed to the cone.
- Will we receive new car signs: Yes, you will be receiving new car signs. In order to complete receive all necessary car signs as efficiently as possible, ALL Parents need to sign in and set up their SDM System by Tuesday Morning. We print signs on Tuesday morning for distribution to scholars. ALL DESIGNATED Persons (parents, grandparents, guardians, carpool, aunts, uncles, siblings, friends, etc.) must have a designated tag for your scholar. This is to ensure that you have given this person the right to pick up your child. We want to ensure safety and security on our campus. For additional support, please see the SDM Car Line Dismissal PDF attached below.
- What else can I do with SDM: You can notify the campus that you are arriving after 8:00 am (Late-Arrival), Change to Dismissal Transportation (from daycare to carline), reporting absences, and check out your child early (Early Check-Out, Not Returning to Campus). These are items that you traditionally would have to call the office to change. SDM allows you to make the changes from the website or app and the office will get an instant notification.
- I don't have my credentials: Parent credentials were sent out on Sunday, August 29, 2021. If you did not receive your credentials, please email Mrs. Lucas at klucas@responsiveedtx.com or give us a call at 936-242-1541. You can call us over the weekend and leave a message and we will get you set up on Monday morning.
- I need additional help: Below I have attached a Parent Quick Reference Guide. Also, remember to reference the Frequently Asked Questions (Parent FAQ) link next to the login area on the website for quick answers to your questions. To view this guide any time, click on Quick Start Guide in your app menu, or if you would prefer to view a video, click on Quick Start Video in your app menu. If you cannot find the answer to your questions in SDM's documentation or videos, click on Get Help in the app menu to send an email directly to the school office staff.
Sincerely,
Roxana Butler.
Volunteer Applications
We love parent volunteers at TWCA. In order to volunteer on our campus, attend school-sponsored field trips, or be actively involved with our PTO, parents must complete a volunteer application (see the link below this post).
Volunteers are needed from 7:30 am-4:10 pm each school day and various hours on field trips or other special days.
All volunteers work through The Woodlands Classical PTO.
Your service as a volunteer in our school is greatly appreciated. In your association with teachers and students, you may have access to student information that is not to be shared or discussed with anyone other than designated personnel.
Confidentiality is of the utmost importance in your work with teachers and students. You may not discuss matters about a child with anyone, not even that child’s parents/guardians; nor are you to contact parents/guardians regarding the behavior or performance of students. You must always refer questions regarding students to the student’s teacher or a school administrator. If you need help with a student, discuss the matter professionally with the child’s teacher, administrator, or other designated school official.
It is required that you acknowledge your intent to fulfill this responsibility by completing this Volunteer Application.
- I will not discuss or answer questions with others, when serving as a volunteer, or when no longer in a volunteer role, about the content of any confidential student information which was learned in the course of, or because of, my work in the school. Nor will I disclose or permit to be disclosed, directly or indirectly, student education records, personally identifiable student information in such records, or other confidential information regarding any student. Exceptions to this rule include my ability to discuss student information with designated faculty or staff members and/or as authorized by the administration.
- The confidentiality of student information shall include, but is not limited to, these topics:
- Academic standing, including student grades and test scores;
- Attendance;
- Financial status;
- Physical/mental health identity and history;
- Disciplinary status/records.
- I further understand that, in accordance with the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act, that any “education records” (generally defined as “those records, files, documents, and other materials which contain information directly related to a student; and are maintained by an educational agency or institution or by a person acting for such agency or institution”) cannot be released, except as enumerated in law, without parent/guardian permission.
- As a volunteer, I understand that I am not authorized to examine, release or comment on student records/information unless expressly authorized by school official in accordance with applicable law.
- While in the possession and control of confidential student data, I understand that I must protect those documents from being viewed or obtained by non-authorized individuals.
- I will never take any confidential student data off-campus unless authorized by a school administrator or his designee.
- Concerns or questions regarding student records or issues of confidentiality should be brought to the attention of the school administrator and/or faculty or staff member that supervises the volunteer.
- I must report any breach or suspected breach in this confidentiality agreement to the building administrator or his designee.
Volunteers at ResponsiveEd Schools shall perform tasks only under the supervision and guidance of appropriate faculty and staff, and are expected to comply with all district rules and regulations. Violation of these guidelines may constitute cause for termination of the volunteer’s services. The Campus Administrator or his designee is responsible for decisions concerning the continuation or discontinuance of a volunteer’s activities.
If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to our front office at 936-242-1541. If you would like to volunteer, reach out to our PTO president, Mrs. Samantha Askins, at thewoodlandsclassicalpto@gmail.com
October Character Virtue--Integrity
Integrity
With integrity, you have nothing to fear, since you have nothing to hide. With integrity, you will do the right thing, so you will have no guilt. − Zig Ziglar
Definition: Is doing the right thing, even if nobody is watching.
Noun: integrity
The quality of being honest and having strong moral principles; moral uprightness. “he is know to be a man of integrity”
The state of being whole and undivided. “upholding territorial integrity and national sovereignty”
The condition of being unified, unimpaired, or sound in construction. “the structural integrity of the novel”
Internal consistency or lack of corruption in electronic data. “integrity checking”
Origins of Integrity
Late Middle English (sense 2): from French intégrité or Latin integritas, from integer ‘intact’ (see integer). Compare with entirety, integral, and integrate.
3 reasons why integrity is important
Reason #1:
Living, working, and leading in integrity means that we don’t question ourselves. When we listen to our hearts and do the right thing, life becomes simple, and we live in peace. Our actions are now open for everyone to see, and we don’t have to worry about hiding anything.
Reason #2:
When we operate from integrity, we gain the trust of other people, especially those we work with closely. This is crucial especially for those in positions of leadership. Others see you as dependable and accountable for your actions. Trust develops, people feel safe in your presence, and you gain influence.
Reason #3:
We become role models, whether we like it or not. Why? Because integrity is a hallmark of ethical leadership – companies, clients, co-workers, stakeholders, churches, schools, communities, and families want leaders that they can trust, and when you demonstrate integrity, you show everyone you can be trusted and respected.
What's your experience here? How has your integrity or character been tested to the limit? What did you do in response?
− Marcel Schwantes
Habit 2: Begin with the End in Mind
Understanding the Habit
Begin With the End In Mind means to think about how you would like something to turn out before getting started. Someone who thinks with the end in mind says, "I plan ahead and set goals. I do things that have meaning and make a difference; I am an important part of my classroom. I can make a difference and contribute to the vision and goals of my school and in my classroom. I look for ways to be a good citizen.
Future Skills that can be learned by beginning with the end in mind:
Use critical thinking to organize information
Develop the intrapersonal skills of self-confidence and self-management
Use creative thinking to solve problems
Develop the ability to set goals and follow-through
Develop strong oral and written communication skills
