Tet Offensive
The tet offensive showed that no part of South Vietnam was safe from attacks. It shattered many people's belief that Communist forces were weakening and that the U.S. would soon win the war.
Election of 1968
Eugene McCarthy and Robert Kennedy called for a rapid end to the war.When he won the crucial California primary, it made him the favorite to win the Democratic presidential nomination. Kennedy quickly gained ground in the race by winning primaries in Indiana and Nebraska.
Assassination of Kennedy
After Kennedy walked off the stage in Los Angeles, a gunman shot him three times. He died less than 24 hours later. The assassin, Sirhan Sirhan, was a Jordanian immigrant who was angry about Kennedy's support for the nation of Israel.
