bns.bcs library open for business!
WELCOME BACK BCS!
Hello BCS staff, new and returning! Here is some info on how to use the library to your best advantage.
Because the library serves both BNS and BCS, it is a super-busy place--which we love! However, to keep from slipping into complete chaos, we like to limit the number of classes and kids in here all at once. If everyone stays flexible, it works beautifully, and it's really great to see the two schools sharing the space.
Tips for teachers on using the library!
- Grades K-6 have scheduled classes in the library once a week. We also have BCS ELA classes scheduled on Fridays throughout the year (see the schedule here).
- If you’d like to bring your class to the library, fantastic! Just make sure to schedule with us in advance. We love to have classes in the library, and want everyone to have regular access. But we also want to ensure that you and your students have a meaningful experience and have a librarian available to help you.
- We are also here to support you in your teaching. Talk to us about creating a LibGuide, finding resources for a particular unit, or arranging a library expedition. We are also available to conduct specialized lessons for your classes on bibliographies and works cited, academic integrity, digital literacy, databases, and more.
- Finally, we know middle-grade and teen literature like nobody’s business, and love to talk about it. Schedule a book talk and let us help your students find the book that just might change their lives.
Some guidelines for sending kids to the library
- You may send up to 3 students at once WITH A PASS to browse and borrow books, work on the computers, or read quietly. Please remind students to be respectful of classes that may be in session!
- If you’d like to send more than 3 students at a time to the library, give us a call first, at extension 4011. We will always try to make it work, but there may be times when the space is just too packed!
Library hours
- We are OPEN every day!
- The library is open for lower school lunch on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, and for upper school lunch everyday. The library is a QUIET space during lunch because classes are going on.
- The library is also open on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday mornings at 8:15. Again, classes are going on, so it's for quiet study and reading.
What did you read this summer?
We hope everyone had a great summer and found time to do some reading! Some of our favorite summer books were Orphan Island by Laurel Snyder, Hunger Makes Me a Modern Girl by Carrie Brownstein (awesome on audio!), Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel, Grit: The Power and Passion of Perseverance by Angela Duckworth, and The Wild Robots by Peter Brown. What did you read this summer?
Heads up! The book fair is coming!
This means the library will close for regular business on Wednesday, September 20th and will reopen on Monday, October 2nd. Definitely schedule your classes or crews to stop in and buy some great books.
