ADMINISTRATION UPDATE
Dear CCS Families,
This has been a week of celebration at CCS! Our Student Leadership Council sponsored School Spirit week with a different theme each day. School Spirit was in full swing with backwards clothes, dress from different decades, CCS colors, crazy hair and PJ's!
On Wednesday, we held our April school-wide assembly. This months assembly featured recognition of all participants in our National Geographic GeoBee, Scripps Spelling Bee and MathCounts. CCS School GeoBee champion Isabella Hackerman was recognized for her strong showing in the statewide GeoBee at Castleton University, as was Scripps School Spelling Champion Deirdre Higgins for her performance at the VT State Regional Bee at St. Michael's College. Our MathCounts team, featuring Innogen Naylor, Luka Mester, Andrew Bastress and Hadley Stockwell placed third in our region and put forth great efforts in the statewide competition.
Third grader Eloise Glasscoe was surprised with the announcement that her drawing for the Casella Calendar competition was chosen for this year's calendar! Eloise received her framed drawing, along with a TD Bank Card. This is the second year in a row that CCS student artwork has been chosen from over 2,000 drawings submitted for publication. Congratulations, Eloise!
Our assembly also kicked off our most recent PBIS celebration - a time for the whole school to celebrate making positive choices. During the week, students voted on which local organization they would like CCS to donate our "Be the Change" proceeds to this year. The top four choices were Make A Wish, Chittenden County Humane Society, VT Dog Rescue and All Breeds Dog Rescue. During the assembly, the spinner landed on our 2018 recipient - Chittenden County Humane Society!
Following the assembly, students paired up (older classrooms with younger classrooms) for the Middle School Kindness Challenge culminating activity of making maple leave with messages of kindness, led by our middle school students. Students then chose between beach ball volleyball, a dance party or games in the library with their big/little buddies.
CCS PTO volunteers Carol Blanshine and Katie Taylor helped The Vermont Lake Monsters and Champ kick off our annual Lake Monsters fundraiser. Please check your child's backpack!
CCS closed out the week before vacation with a spirited game of basketball between staff members and 7th & 8th grade students! This was a wonderful week of connection and celebration. We wish you all a happy (and hopefully not snowy) Spring Break!
Warm Regards,
Stephanie, Jen and Cassandra

Several Cases of Strep Throat at CCS
We have seen several cases of strep throat this week at CCS.
Strep throat is a common type of sore throat in children, but it’s not very common in adults. If you have strep throat infection, you will have a red and painful sore throat and may have white patches on your tonsils. You may also have swollen lymph nodes in your neck, run a fever, and have a headache. Nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain can occur but are more common in children than in adults. Your health care provider may call it acute streptococcal pharyngitis. Strep throat may sometimes lead to scarlet fever.Ultimate Frisbee at CCS!
Ultimate Frisbee - Why Should I Give Ultimate Frisbee a Try?
*It’s fun to get outside with friends in spring!
*It’s fun to learn a new sport!
* What else are you going to do after school? Go home to a
boring house?
*It’s a new sport at CVU, too, so you might do it in high school!
*It’s healthy to stay active!
*There aren’t any other sports offered in the spring at CCS!
*It’s only twice a week (not every day)!
*All you need is running shoes or cleats- low equipment cost!
* You might really like it!
*Why not?
Come to the first practice on April 30th (right after April break)
3-4:15 at CCS, to find out more and give it a try.
Grab a friend and check it out. We are hoping to field a team- at least 12
players -so we can scrimmage with Hinesburg, Burlington, Vt Commons.
Contact Julie Holmes: 985-8229 or Mr. Kent for more information!

2018-19 AFTER SCHOOL CHILD CARE SEARCH
CVSD is forming a search committee to interview potential child care providers for our after school program for the 2018-19 school year. We are seeking interested parents to help us find the best fit for our community. Can you volunteer? The commitment will be two evenings tentatively scheduled for the week of April 16th. The district will reimburse you for child care costs if necessary. If you have questions, please send them to Jeanne Jensen at cvsdinformation@cvsdvt.org with the subject "After School Care" or call 385-1234
