Grade
Parents, keep practicing your child’s sight words at home, adding the unfamiliar words to your collection. Teachers will periodically test all words so make sure your child is ready!
News
This grading period we will continue to work on addition and subtraction strategies and how they are related. We will also learn to represent and interpret data using three categories. Practicing addition and subtraction facts at home will increase fluency and build math confidence.
Second Grade
Second graders have started learning about the different storms and science. In math we are moving onto subtraction using a variety of strategies. In social studies we have been learning about the constitution then moving into studying the first people who lived in America. In reading, our current unit has had a variety of standards but our essential questions have focused around animals.
Third Grade
Third grade is planning a field trip to the Athens theater. Permission slips will be going home this month. We are really excited for this upcoming adventure. Our third grade team has been doing some really cool activities in science as we study matter and how it changes from one state to another. In math, we are moving into the study of area using real world scenarios for a deeper understanding. As always, we encourage every child to read, read, read at home daily! Reading is the key to success. We hope everyone has a well-rested Thanksgiving break. Take time to practice Habit #7 and let’s all Sharpen the Saw!
Fourth Grade
4th grade is currently working on multi-digit division in Math and Poetry and Prose in ELA. They will be attending a live performance in January to give them a first hand experience of what it’s like to be a member of an audience! Don’t forget to turn in your money and permission slips to your teacher or office. Online payments are also accepted. DLE’s 4th graders are also hard at work learning about the different Paleo Native American Tribes of Florida during Social Studies. We have also been learning about different Earth Science topics such as weathering and erosion. Test your 4th grader’s knowledge be asking them for an example of each.

The Court Report
Physical Education has been off and running to a great start of the new school year.
Coach Farmer has been working on base running, playing ultimate ball, hula hoops challenges and working on correct sit up and push up technique for fitness testing.
Coach Washburn has been working on balance with various obstacle challenges, hitting the ball off a tee and a toss, various dodge games and workouts involving bands and exercises.
Coach Warfield played the Rock, Paper, Scissor hula hoop hopping team game, medic ball, working on correct throwing technique. Pokemon Go and involving music and movement with Hey Geranimo and the Pata Pata.
We start Fitness testing soon and will be doing the 50 yard dash, sit-ups, push-ups, arm-hang, pacer test, sit & reach and standing broad jump. We test now and again in the spring and encourage families to be active and keep on moving.
Please remember safe shoes for PE or your child will be asked to sit out. No open toes or backs at school anytime and heels are a safety issue at PE. Shoes with flat bottoms and closed toes and heels are best! Also, take the time and teach your child to tie their shoes so they can be prepared and confident in that skill.
Looking forward to the cooler weather which means lots of jackets, sweatshirts and sweaters are left daily at PE. Please put your child’s name in them so they can be returned. Otherwise they get thrown out or donated.
Thank you to Lowe’s of Deltona for providing shade and donating three tents for us to use at PE. They provide the students/staff shade and a place to take a break from the hot Florida sun.

Thanksgiving Break!
Segundo Grado
