Welcome!
Try This At Home ...
This year, as you allow your child to become more and more responsible and accountable for their schoolwork and learning, you will be less involved in the day-to-day tasks of going through backpacks, notebooks, and folders. This may be challenging for some of you at first to begin more of a "hands off" approach, but I assure you that by 4th grade, your child is capable and looking forward to being seen as mature enough to handle the responsibility!
Next Week's Set List (August 8-12)
Week at a Glance/Skills for the Week:
LITERACY – We continue establishing our class routines, procedures, and expectations in literacy. We have practiced taking charge of our reading life, taking notes about our reading, and stopping to talk with partners. Students are expected to read 25 minutes every night!
WRITING – We are practicing good writing habits, and generating a lot of ideas for writing this school year.
MATH – We are in Unit 1. You should have received the Family Letter earlier this week. This week, we will work through lessons 4-8. As the test date approaches, I will send home a study guide for the unit as well as the test date. The test is tentatively scheduled for Wednesday, August 17th!
SPELLING – This week will be the first spelling test. The core words are there, would, course, write, and always. Your child has a complete list in his/her folder and should be studying at home.
SCIENCE – No Science this week.
SOCIAL STUDIES – We will begin unit 1 in Social Studies next week, which investigates Indiana's physical features. Essential Questions to explore: How have people over time adapted to the changes in the land? How do people use the land's resources? How have people benefited from the 3 regions created by glaciers?
