We had a great Art Print this month with Mrs. Miles! For our project, we did a "tableau vivant" or frozen reenactment of the painting, with a table setting, some food, hats, other dress-up clothes and props. The two groups of students competed for the best reenactment. Which group do you think did the best job? Please ask your student which group won! The students commented that this was the best Art Print ever! Thank you Mrs. Miles!!:)

Baby/Childhood Photos Needed!!

In order to prepare for a special end of year presentation, as well as an exciting display in the yearbook, we are asking for some help from you. We are requesting that one early childhood or baby photo of each 5th grader be sent in as soon as possible. A notice went home in Monday folders a few weeks ago, but I thought I would give another reminder. The photos will be given to Ms. MacPherson, our library assistant, to organize for these upcoming projects. If you prefer to send an electronic copy, feel free to email the photo to: kmacpherson@k12albemarle.org. When sending all photos please be sure to include your child’s name. All photos will be returned upon completion. If you have any questions please feel free to contact Kelli Crickenberger (kcrickenberger@k12albemarle.org).

We thank you in advance for your support in these fun projects!

In writing we are still focusing on research writing. We have created our research questions, written our thesis, and completed our research. Now, they will be going through planning process for writing their papers, and creating a works cited page. All of this will be done at school and will be part of their county portfolio.

The VS 8 Reconstruction Era unit test will be Friday, February 26th. On Monday, February 29th the students will be the Light & Sound unit with Mrs. Crickenberger.

We will completing the county's 5th grade Performance Task on Tuesday, February 23rd. Every 5th grader in the county completes this Social Studies based task.

We will finish reading My Brother Sam is Dead next week. We will move on to Biographies/Autobiographies.

Birthday Celebrations

Every child loves to feel special that one day of the year. If you so choose, your child may share a treat with his or her classmates on or near his or her birthday. Treats are generally shared between 1:00-1:20 pm. We have no students in our classroom with food allergies. Please let me know prior to bringing in classroom treats so that we can plan accordingly.
