Peyote
What is it?
Peyote is a small spineless cactus and it's priciple active ingredient is mescaline. Mescaline is a hallucinogen and is used as a recreational drug. It was used by natives by Mexico and Southwestern United States for religious ceremonies.
How it's Taken into the Body
The crown of the cactus has a disk-shaped buttons that are cut from the plant, sliced, and dried. The dried buttons can be chewed or soaked in water to produce intoxicated liquid. Because the extract is so bitter, some boil the cactus for several hours to prepare a tea.

Affects on the Body
Short Term:
- increases body temperature, heart rate and blood pressure

- usually causes vomiting before entering dreamlike stage

- experiencing past hallucinations long after digesting the drug
