Weekly Update 3.22.20
Joan MacQueen Middle School
Principal Message
Good Evening Dust Devils!
Wow! What a difference a week makes. This is Joan MacQueen's proud principal Casey Currigan. I hope this last week has not been too stressful. I do want all of our students to know that their teachers are thinking about them, and if they need something, all they have to do is reach out and ask, and we will do what we can to support them. I want to say thank you to:
Shannon McCarthy-Beasly, our Child Nutrition Director. She and her team have been preparing meals every day and serving them at Boulder Oaks Elementary. This past week has seen all of our District come together. Our administrative staff have broken down over ten computer carts to make sure every student in Alpine who needs a Chromebook has access. Jane Smith, Edna Murillo, and Yvette Maier have been working to ensure students have access to social-emotional support. Our teachers have been reaching out and connecting in a multitude of ways.
Moving forward, the Joan MacQueen staff is meeting online tomorrow to develop our plan to support students moving forward. Additionally, we will continue to provide the most updated information from the California Department of Education and the San Diego County Office of Education. Should you have specific questions, please email ccurrigan@alpineschools.net
Low Cost High Speed Internet
I wanted to let you know that Cox is adding another free month of internet service for new participants to the Connect2Compete program for low-income K-12 families. They had previously offered 30 days free, but are now adding another 30 days as things evolve around the coronavirus pandemic, to make it easier for students without internet at home to stay connected during this time. Here is a brief description:
Cox Communications is extending it's Connect2Compete $9.95 a month home internet program from 30 days free to 60 days free. This offer applies to participants who enrolled in the program starting on March 13, 2020, and is available to new Connect2Compete participants through May 15.
New AUSD Student Services Website!
You can find up-to-date community support links and useful school resources during this difficult time. We also offer quick access to available state and county resources such as unemployment support, mental health crisis sites, food scarcity supports, and health care benefits.
