Ms. Gebhard's 1st Grade Class

Make Yourself Proud!

Classroom Update

Winter concert update: There will be no K-2 concert on 12/9. Our concert will be on 12/17 and it will be grades 1-5, so our class will be performing. You should have received a participation sheet. Please return this so we know who is attending. The concert starts at 6pm and your student should find me when they arrive. We will be gathering together to be ready for our performance.

Students LOVED our Fun Friday Science today. I don't have any pictures because my hands were covered in OOBLECK. I promised the recipe, so here it is if you want to make your own at home. Is it a solid or a liquid?!?

I sent home a last minute holiday Scholastic order if anyone missed the book fair and/or is still looking for holiday gifts. This order will be due on Monday 12/7/15 in order for holiday delivery. You can order online or send it in to class.

Want to see more about our TAPAS residency? Check out the Claxton A+ blog here. Our cities are on display in the media center if you want to stop by to see them.

Please send in your rsvp for the holiday lunch on December 11th if you'll be joining us. Our lunch will be earlier then normal, at 11:45. Hope to see you then!

Our Learning Goals

Reading: We will continue focusing on using decoding strategies when reading. We will use Time for Kids and fiction text to ask and answer questions about a text. Students will use close reading strategies throughout the week in full class and small group reading.

Writing: We will begin working on "how-to" writing. This week we will write about how to build a snowman.

Math: We are starting place value using Engage NY Module 2. You can find more info about what we are learning here.

Science: We will conclude our unit on earth materials this week. We have been testing soil samples and experimenting to see which can grow a plant.

Social Studies: We will be learning about how holidays are celebrated around the world.

A look at last week...

Working our hardest and learning something new every day!
