Hour of Code

We participated in the worldwide Hour of Code this week where students were able to learn the basic ideas of computer coding. Students were able to program Minecraft characters to perform different tasks using basic computer codes. A great time was had by all and hopefully this experience sparked an interest in computer programming for our students!

We will not be able to devote much more time to this in school, but please see the video below and visit Code.Org for more information on how your child can learn computer programming on his/her own.

Hour of Code 2015 - WORLDWIDE

What Will We Be Learning This Week?

Math

Students will continue their study of fractions next week. They will be practicing comparing fractions, adding and subtracting fractions, and converting improper fractions to mixed numbers.

Students are expected to do Accelerated Math next week. Three objectives are due on Thursday afternoon.

Science

We will be finishing our unit on Electricity. Students have read an article titled: “Wired World”. It discusses the beginnings of the Internet and how its rapid growth affects young people around the world. Students did not have ample time this week to complete the questions that go with that article. They will be completing this activity next week.

Language Arts

We will be spending this week finishing various projects that we have been working on in class, including our guided reading books.

We will not have a spelling list this week.

Social Studies

This week we will be learning how the Carolina Charter of 1663 helped to establish the first permanent European settlements in North Carolina.
