Term 4 Week 1

Kia ora

We have welcomed 8 new children and their whānau to Uenuku this week!

It's great to have Evelyn, Liam, Charlie, Hazel, Alexi, Erica, Olive and Kobe at school with us everyday. We also welcome Mrs Fui (Leah) and Mrs Daly (Marilyn) to our teaching team. Please see the attached letter from Mrs Arthurs.

Term 4 is always a very busy term both in and out of the classroom. We are looking forward to swimming, outside classroom day, and EOTC (education outside of the classroom) week amongst other things.

Swimming. Lessons start tomorrow!

Thank you to those of you who have offered to help. We look forward to seeing you at the pool at your child's lesson time. Please send your child with their NAMED togs, towel, swim hat and goggles (if they like to wear them) in a separate swimming bag.

It is a good idea to include an extra snack or two in their lunchbox too, as the children often get very hungry after their lessons.

Hearing and Vision Nurse visit

The nurse will be coming to school next Thursday, 27th October, to conduct hearing and vision tests with some of the children. Please let us know if you would like your child to be checked and we will add them to the list.

Hats, sunblock and water bottles.

In term 4 all tamariki and staff must wear a wide brimmed sun hat whilst outside. We have a school policy of no hat, no play. School sun hats are available to purchase from the office.

Looking ahead to the warmer weather, please remember to apply sunblock to your child before school. We have bottles of sunblock in class for the children to apply before lunch time. Alternatively, you are welcome to send your own sunblock with your child if you prefer. Please name this clearly.

We ensure that the children drink water throughout the day, every day. Please make sure that your child has a named water bottle with them every day. Thank you.

Daily reminders

  • Classrooms open at 8:30am. Prior to this teachers may be in meetings or busy preparing for the day and are not available to supervise the children.
  • Please provide a change of clothes in your child's bag. It's also helpful to have a warm jersey and a raincoat even if the weather seems warm and dry in the morning.
  • Please check your child's school bag each day - they may have a new reading book in their book bag, a notice, or have some of their wonderful creations to share. Wet/dirty clothes might be a possibility too!
  • Please send your child with a water bottle every day.

Please do not hesitate to get in touch with us with any queries, or pop in to see us for a quick chat either before or after school.
