Social Media

Big picture

Parents,

We need your help as we seek to be preventative, rather than reactive, to the recent and proposed TikTok trends. As many of you know the fad of vandalizing school restrooms hit GPHS last month. I would like to say that I am very proud of how most students have since treated our facilities. Our students' recent behavior is a testament to the outstanding parents/guardians whom we fortunate serve. While we will remain vigilant on the campus of potential issues, I would like to solicit support from you as proposed future challenges begin to circulate.

We believe, that in partnership with our parents/guardians, we can successfully mitigate many issues of theft, vandalism, violation of personal spaces, and physical harm related to these social media challenges.

However, in the event that students participate in these challenges the following consequences could occur:

  • provide restitution for the damaged items,
  • face campus disciplinary action, including a possible placement at an alternative campus,
  • and could be faced with criminal charges if warranted based on the severity of the damages.

We also encourage students and parents to use the tip line to report suspicious activity to the GPHS campus administrative team anonymously.

Please see the anticipated TikTok challenges which are detailed below. GPHS staff are working to avoid issues associated with these activities, and we ask that you all talk to your student(s) about appropriate school behaviors and the consequences associated with social media challenges. Note: The vulgar parts of the proposed challenges have been removed as the full names of the actual activities are not appropriate for this message.

  • Sept: Damage school RR
  • Oct: Slap a staff member
  • Nov: Kiss someone else's girl
  • Dec: Deck the Halls...trash and inappropriate graffiti
  • Jan: Jab a female ...
  • Feb: Destroy school signs
  • March: Make a mess in the cafeteria or courtyard
  • April: Grab privates of boys
  • May: Skip School
  • June: Flip Off Front Office
  • July: Spray a neighbor’s fence

We look forward to partnering with you as we all rally around our young people and strive to teach them as they grow into outstanding citizens!

Thank you for your time!

High School Attendance

In high school credits are earned two ways:

1. Students must earn a 70% or higher for the semester

2. Students must be in attendance 90% or more of the classes.

Absences and tardies can accumulate quickly. Students can lose class credit even if they pass the course.

Students who are more than 15 minutes late to class will be considered absent.

Please help us ensure that all of your students are arriving at school on time each day.
