Message From Your Proud Principal
Email from Laura on 8/6/20
Staff,
We had such a successful Open House! It was so great to see our new kiddos walk through the doors with little smiles under their masks. It was also great to see smiles on the faces of their parents as they exited. This means they felt welcomed and proud! Thank you to each of you for making this happen.
In an effort to be as transparent as possible, I wanted to share the most recent updates I received after yesterday's meeting with executive superintendent, Dr. Steve Flynt, and our assistant superintendent, Dr. Pam Williams.
- Return to In-Person Instruction- An email was sent to employees and parents from Mr. Wilbanks on 8/4/20. Our focus at Parsons is to start our school year off strong, DIGITALLY. Once the school year gets started, we will begin working on a local school plan for return to In-Person instruction. It will be important for us to have a plan for these tentative dates. Dr. Flynt and Dr. Williams used the words "IF CONDITIONS ALLOW" throughout the meeting with principals yesterday. I also learned the district will not be sending a new survey for parents to share their preference but we are looking into a local school process to determine if any parent preferences have changed since the initial parent survey at the end of June. We will begin with reviewing our precautionary steps for student return to in-person. Our goal is to make minimal changes to class lists (if any) and schedules but we will have to see how many in person/digital kiddos we have on each grade level.
- Nuts and Bolts
- Device and Internet Access - Ricky and Emily are working diligently to prepare and checkout Chromebooks and Hotspots to those families that shared they have limited or no access. We have not received the district provided Hotspots, but are expecting them at any time.
- Health Services - The district has shared a document titled Mask & Face Covering Guidelines which includes information for staff, students, and parents. Additionally, face shields will be provided to all teachers. These are optional PPE supplies and not required (arrival to TBD).
- Facilities - Each school will be receiving floor signage for social distancing and hallway direction. Once it arrives, Gabby and her team will be putting these down.
- Attendance- The district has shared an Attendance Guidance & Information sheet . Teachers will have access to go into Synergy to make any changes, if needed. Please email your AP if you have any questions.
- Staff Children-Based on the guidance from HR, staff may bring their personal children to work with them during digital learning. If you need this accommodation, please let administration know. Attached is Guidance for Schools with Staff Children in regards to confidentiality of students in your classroom if your personal children are in your room. We did not receive any guidance about staff children being able to continue to accompany their parent when we transition to in person instruction.
Proud to be your Administrators,
Sheri, Yolanda, and Laura

Student Supply Pick Up Directions for Teachers
On Tuesday, teachers will need to pick up supply bags that were not picked up by students. You will store these bags in your classroom. We will discuss a plan at a later date for those students who did not pick up their supplies.
You will receive an Emergency Manual to put in your red bag today. Please take the time to read over the procedures and be familiar with each type of emergency that could occur. Mrs. Harris will review our Local School Safety Plan on Monday during our Zoom meeting. Here are a few reminders as you go through the Emergency Manual:
- Keep your Red Emergency Bag with your class at ALL TIMES.
- Always remain calm during an emergency.
- Do not prop the doors and NEVER let anyone in the building even if they say, "I'm Mrs. Clark's sister."
- All visitors, no matter who they are, must enter through the front doors.

Odds and Ends
- The county will create formative and summative unit assessments in LA & MA that will be used at each grade level.
- This year, we will use Google Classroom through eCLASS for digital work. If you are not proficient with Google Classroom, you need to register to view the module in the PD&E.
