Candy Gram Fundraiser
Burton’s Student Council Leadership Team is sponsoring a Candy Gram fundraiser to raise money for charity. A Candy Gram consists of a note card and Hershey Kiss. Students can send a Candy Gram to a student in their classroom or another classroom. The candy grams are sold in sets of 4 and cost $2.
To participate, your child can bring in money to purchase the Candy Grams beginning Monday, January 23 through Friday, 27th.
Teachers will give your child blank Candy Gram cards to take home, fill out, cut, and return to school by Tuesday, January 31.
On the card be sure to have your child fill out the recipient’s first/last name and classroom teacher.
Please let your child’s teacher know if your child has a dietary restriction to Hershey Kisses and an alternate candy will be provided. Candy Grams will be delivered to students on Valentine's Day!
*No one will be left out. We will make sure every student receives a candy gram.*

MLK Day Event
On Monday, January 16, Berkley and Royal Oak Schools partnered in an MLK Day event “A Day On, Not a Day Off” at Berkley High School. It included sign-making, breakfast, a freedom walk, and multiple service projects. Many Burton students, families, and staff members attended the event.
🌈Colorful greetings from the Burton Art Studio🌈
Dear Burton Artists, Parents & Staff,
Did you happen to clean out your junk drawers for the new year? The Art Studio is in need of small items for an art project! Our 4th grade artists are going to be learning about assemblages. We are in need of small pieces of various objects. I already purchased clothespins, beads, paper straws, feathers, wooden shapes, etc. but there are plenty of objects we would love to use that I cannot simply purchase, like:
-clean plastic caps
-interesting, vintage buttons
-various small plastic animals or small toys
-plastic handles that join two costco juice bottles
-wooden, metal or plastic board game pieces
-odds and end/broken jewelry
-watch or clock parts/small gears
-various nuts and bolts (not sharp, no screws/nails)
-(anything clean and not sharp that can fit in your palm), doesn't have to be colorful!
If you have any of these, the Art Studio bin will be in front of the main office doors for collection marked ART STUDIO DONATIONS.
Thank you in advance!
It's a fleece braid! It's funky hair! It's.... DOG TOYS!
Upper elementary fast finishers in the Art Studio are making dog toys for local shelters out of fleece scraps donated to the Art Studio!

Diversity Alliance Club
Did you know?
Today, our Diversity Alliance Club had a powerful discussion about racism and civil rights. We read the book Let the Children March, by Monica Clark-Robinson, and discussed the impact of that march on the civil rights movement. It was a great connection after several of our club members, along with Mrs. Keller and Mr. Torres, participated in Monday’s “MLK Day: Day On, Not a Day Off” event, which included a freedom walk. We also discussed ideas for continuing our goals of diversity, equity, and inclusion at Burton. Mystic Popcorn generously offered to donate the profits from a popcorn sale to our club again this year. The students had some great ideas for how to use the donation to further our goals - stay tuned! The popcorn fundraiser was supposed to take place yesterday, but was postponed due to the rain. We’ll let you know when it is rescheduled so you can get some delicious kettle corn while supporting the Diversity Alliance Club! If you have any questions, please feel free to contact club advisors: Mrs. Keller or Mr. Torres.
