Faculty Newsletter, Winter 2015
Two AUTHOR VISITS:
Ruta Sepetys, author of Between Shades of Gray and Out of the Easy will be here in March. We would love to partner with a class, grade level, or group in reading one of her books and have a smaller session with her on that day. Between Shades of Gray lends itself to the HS curriculum as it is about the treatment of Lithuanian Jews during the Holocaust and is based on Sepetys own family story. Out of the Easy is a murder mystery involving a precociously smart teen trying to rise above her raising in 1950s New Orleans when expectations for her are disappointingly low. If interested, please see Alicia in the library.
Also stay tuned for a date in May for AHS students to attend a Skype visit with local teen author, Maya Van Wagenen, co-sponsored by the Albany Public Library. Maya wrote the memoir, Popular chronicling her unique social experiment. She spent the school year following a 1950s popularity guide found at a thrift store, written by former teen model Betty Cornell. This event will be held in the UN Room at Albany High School; please see Kristen in the library for more information.
