Taylor's News!
This week in Math and Science:
Math– This week we will focus on applying our multiplication skills to solve problems and then we will begin division. We will also be taking our 1st timed division fact test this Friday. Please encourage your children to practice those multiplication facts and also remind them that if they know their multiplication facts, it makes learning those division facts so easy!
Science – We will begin our Properties Matter unit of study. We can't wait to see what fun hands on Science experiments we will do this 9 weeks!
Social Studies- During the second nine weeks we will be covering the Indian Tribes of Texas. We will be learning about their settlements, appearance, clothing, food, tools, and customs.
Stern's News!
READING: We will begin to read and discuss informational/expository non-fiction text. We will be reviewing how to use context clues and text features to determine the meaning of unfamiliar words. We will discuss the narrator of a story and how to tell if the text is written in first person or third person.
WRITING: Ask your child what it means to "Color Your Writing". We will continue to check our recent personal narrative to make sure it has a variety of writing styles such as action, voice/thinking/feeling, talking, and great descriptive sentences. We will be sharing our writing and work on our focus.
SPELLING: This week's spelling words come from Unit 9 . Our spelling skill concept this week is using prefixes accurately. We will review how to add a suffix to make a verb past tense: noticed/regular, kept/irregular. Spelling words for the week will be recorded by students in the far right column of the week's agenda. Pace Language Arts students will have an extra 8 words per week. Any students wishing to include the pace words into their spelling test may do so.
