Message from Mrs. Rodgers
Hello Krahn Families,
Happy New Year and welcome back to school! With the New Year comes hope and excitement. At school, it means checking students’ progress and making necessary adjustments to help improve their learning. We will be starting the middle of the year MAP growth assessment for our Kinder-5th Grade students. This online test is used to measure what your student knows and how they are growing academically in Reading and Mathematics.

Power of Choice Conference
(Saturday, January 21, 2023 at the KMPC 9 AM- Noon)
“In our awesome district, we share a vision that every student enters with
a promise and exits with a purpose. By ensuring that every student has a clear
pathway to success, we are able to personalize learning for students and ensure
that all of our graduates have a bright future ahead of them.” (Dr. Jenny McGown)
This is a great opportunity to learn about the multiple choices that our students have to build their pathway to success!
The entire family is welcome to attend: The entire family can experience activities in the Pathway exploration area, hear from experts in each course, and reach out to school counselors to map their pathway to success.
If you have a student entering Intermediate School or High School, you won’t want to miss this opportunity.
There will be an exploration area where kids can work with students and try out some unique opportunities.
This is a come-and-go event: Families can choose to attend one or multiple sessions
6th Grade Course Selections
Course selection packets will go home on January 17th. The orange 6th Grade Course Selection Sheet is due back on or before January 26th. Inside course selection packets you will find information on advanced and accelerated courses, and elective information with associated fees. If you have any questions about what courses to choose for your child, please reach out to your child’s teacher. If you would like to make any schedule change requests after January 26th, you must do so by email to Kassi Lang at klang1@kleinisd.net.
Culture4Caring
This month our Culture4Caring meeting will be on Wednesday, January 11 in the library at 7:15. Please make sure that you drop your child off at the front doors between 7:00-7:15 if they are attending. We will focus on the originality tennant this month. We will create Valentine’s Cards for troops! All cards must be turned in to the school counselor by January 18, so that we can get them mailed off in time.
Card guidelines:
♥ Send a card, handwritten letter, or note. Please send the card only - no envelopes.
♥ Keep your cards to a size of 8 1/2" x 11" or under for ease in shipping and distribution.
♥ Do not use glitter or materials that easily break off during the two-week shipment.
♥ Keep your messages positive! Start with a salutation, such as "Dear Hero" or "Dear Brave One." All cards will be screened.
You may make cards at home with your family and bring them to school as well! Just be sure to follow the guidelines!

Library Updates
We are excited to begin a new calendar year with our Krahn students and families! We will be sending out notes for books that have been damaged, or missing for a long time and need to be paid for. All of the titles can be replaced easily via our Wish List with the Bound to Stay Bound company. For more details, please see our Library page on the Krahn website!
Mark your calendars! We will be having our next Scholastic Book Fair in February! We will set up on February 14th, Previews and purchases can be made by students during their classes regularly scheduled library times and at each teacher's discretion. The fair will run from the 20th-24th, exact hours will be announced soon.
Did you know that you have access to databases, audiobooks, and more from the Klein Dashboard? We will be teaching students how to access these things at home.
Please send your student’s books back to school in a plastic bag. It can be a zipper bag, a grocery store bag, or any reusable bag from home. This helps protect the books from spills, crayons, and pencils at the bottom of backpacks and from getting banged by other materials.
Finally, congratulations to our Name That Book team, "Silly Mad Tacos" which was officially announced in December. This team of 8 3rd-5th graders will be competing with other schools throughout Klein. Each team reads as many of the 24 assigned books as possible and is quizzed on them. The winning team receives a trophy.

Late Arrival/Early Dismissal
If your child arrives after 8:10 in the morning or is having an early dismissal a parent or guardian must sign them in/out at the front office. The front roundabout is used for buses and is a fire line and cannot be used for parking. You will need to park in one of the visitor parking spots, or across the street if there are no spots available.
