Message from Mrs. Todd
Every Wednesday morning, the Todd family has a routine. It is Garbage day at our house. My three year old hears the squeak of the Garbage Truck brakes going up our hill around 6am. He flies out of bed. I hear the loud foot steps of him running to the window, yelling "The garbage truck, the garbage truck is here. He is getting the green can, the blue can or the gray can? Hi Garbage truck!" All said at volume 10 with excitement and giant arm waving.
Then it happens, the truck drives up the other side of the street, emptying the cans and then turns right. "Oh no, what happened to the Garbage truck?" with tears in his eyes. Every week, we talk about how it will come back. Every week he stands at the window and waits. Every week we talk about his worry about the garbage truck not returning. Every week it comes back. As soon as it pulls up, the excitement returns, the volume is 10 again, and the tears are gone.
I feel like this story is much like Distance Learning and hybrid. There has been so much build up multiple times over the past year, "Are we coming back? When? How? What will it look like?" and now we are "Pulling up" to hybrid like the garbage truck does in front of my house every week. We know we are coming back. We have a date! The excitement is in the air! The volume is at 10. We can't wait to say "Hi." No more standing and waiting.
However, our students are still going to have some of the worried feeling that Jasper shows every week. Please reach out if you need support. We have counselors to talk with kids. Our teachers are here to answer questions. If you student is changing teachers, we plan to have some zooms before March 29 so they can meet their new teacher. Come to campus and find the classroom. Come during the day and have your students see the new office and reconnect with Lisa, Mandy and myself.
I can't wait to hear volume 10 on the playyard and seeing all the arms waving hi the week of March 29!
XO, Mrs. Todd
We are hiring!!
Instructional Assistant Positions Available
We have a 3.5 hour a day instructional Assistant and yard supervisior position open. We are really serious about who we pick to join our team! Our students deserve nothing but the best and we hope you'll help us in our search.
As an instructional assistant support our students and teachers in a variety of ways. Leading small group learning circles, "pushing into the classroom" to help students as needed, preparing materials for lessons, helping students grow their social emotional capacity, etc., our Instructional Assistants do it all! And we love them for it!
We are eager to find the next two members of Team Riebli! If you are interested, have questions, or want to talk further, please email Mrs. Todd immediately at etodd@mwusd.org.
Thank you!

Travel and Hybrid
On January 6, 2021, the California Department of Public Health (“CDPH”) issued an updated travel advisory recommending the following restrictions for those who engaged in non-essential travel, defined as travel that is considered tourism or recreational in nature:
“Except in connection with essential travel, Californians should avoid non-essential travel to any part of California more than 120 miles from one's place of residence, or to other states or countries.” It goes on to say that if people stay in California, while travel over 120 miles is discouraged, they are not required to self-quarantine."
"Quarantine Post-Travel: All persons arriving in or returning to California from other states or countries, should self-quarantine for 10 days [ii] after arrival, except as necessary to meet urgent critical healthcare staffing needs or to otherwise engage in emergency response. Additionally, this recommendation does not apply to individuals who routinely cross state or country borders for essential travel [iii]."

Help keep music in our schools! The board positions for president and treasurer still need to be filled for the Mark West Education Foundation to continue. Please contact the Foundation at mwef@mwusd.org if you are interested or have any questions.
As the district prepares to switch to a hybrid learning model, music instruction at all grade levels will continue to be provided solely through distance learning through the end of this school year, due to safety protocols and scheduling.
Students who will be on campus for hybrid learning in a few weeks can keep an eye (and ear!) out for Mrs. Kaufman who will be visiting the campuses on occasion during recess to play some live music! Song requests welcome!
