WWMS WEEKLY
Week of March 1st
SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL LEARNING
In order to fully implement SEL within our building instruction, systems, and culture we have adopted CASEL's building implementation plan. CASEL or The Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning is a trusted source for knowledge about high-quality, evidence-based SEL. There are five competencies that are reflected in CASEL's implementation; Self-Management, Self-Awareness, Responsible Decision-Making, Social Awareness and Relationship Skills. CASEL’s framework takes a systemic approach that emphasizes the importance of establishing equitable learning environments and coordinating practices across key settings of classrooms, schools, families, and communities to enhance all students’ social, emotional, and academic learning.
After evaluating our SEL implementation this past summer, the administration along with the SEL Leadership Team, comprised of 20 WWMS educators, identified a need for a WWMS vision statement. The vision statement will allow all WWMS staff to have a common direction of growth, and an inspiration statement to be better. The group conducted several sessions with all of our staff members virtually this year to develop our shared statement. I am proud to share this vision with you.
