The Ender's Game
Orson Scott Card
Overview
It all starts as Ender Wiggins beats up a well known school bully named Stilson, in return makes the military of the time realize that Wiggins is a perfect fit for their battle school. Ender decides to attend the battle school where it is located on a ship far away from earth. He lives with the new recruits called launchies. Ender demonstrates his abilities to brilliantly visualize gravitational effects, which essentially shows all of his colleagues how intelligent he is. The first time that the military commanders take notice of him is when he made it farther in the mind game than anyone else. After they saw his demonstration of the game he is then promoted to salamander army where he is not wanted by the commander, Bonzo Madrid. The only friend he was able to acquire in his new group is Petra Arkanian. Ender and his new friend begin to train, and as soon as they start getting close he is then traded to the Rat Army. Ender's intelligence causes resentment towards him from other soldiers, because they feel he is a threat to their rankings. Therefore, four older boys jump him and Ender came to the conclusion that the his teachers are leaving him to lookout for himself. He is eventually made the Dragon Army's leader, here he is given a relatively inexperienced group of launchies. Even though his army was weak and inexperienced they consisted of very bright kids. Bonzo and his army for sure thought that they would obliterate Ender's army, however their army used a never before seen tactic that eventually beat Bonzo's army. Bonzo was very embarassed, so he decided to try and fight ender in the bathroom where he was beaten up very badly by Ender. After this Ender was promoted to from military school to command school. At command school Ender meets Mazer Rackham, the hero of the second Bugger Invasion (buggers are like a bunch of high tech insects that are all controlled by the queen). Ender eventually comes to a simulation battle where the odds are against him, and many officers are watching him... of course he wins. It turns out his so called simulations battle, was an actual battle where he was used and all of his teachers knew it all along. They attempted to say that a child was the only kind of human capable of understanding enemy, that's why they told him it was a game in order to win with such great loss of life. Ender then, sets off with Valentine to help populate the worlds left behind buggers. Ender reaches earth where he can think the queen of the buggers thoughts and realizes that they really don't want to fight humans, so he makes it his duty to find a place for them to live.
