SLS Students Give Gift of Time to Chateau Residents
The following is an email to staff from teacher Betty Powell:
"Friday after school current 8th graders Ramon Blanco and Brandon Simmermeyer, and former student Lauren Bischoff visited the Batesville Chateau. Ramon and Brandon planned the event. They chose visiting the elderly as the Christmas gift of their time and friendship. Lauren joined the guys as well. I was extremely proud of the three, it was one of the most amazing Christmas events I have had the opportunity to witness.
The kids took stuffed toys, cookies, cards, etc. The gifts were welcomed, but the friendship and kid's time was the most enjoyable for the residents. A couple of the elderly shed some tears, that is when the gift of time seemed so important. I pretty much followed in the back and took in the event. Ramon received a few hugs. He was so kind - accepted the hugs - even telling one woman 'we wanted to wish you a Merry Christmas and know we care about you.' I thought there was going to be a teacher crying as well. These kids 'thanked me' at the end for allowing them to do this activity. They deserve all the thanks! The residents loved having them visit. Proudly, they said they were from St. Louis Catholic School."

Nurse's News
As we are dealing with illness in the school, we ask that you please refrain from sending your child to school if they are ill. Your student should remain home 24 hours following vomiting, diarrhea, or fever over 100.0 (per St. Louis School policy).
If your child has been diagnosed with strep throat, please keep him/her home until they have been on antibiotics for 24 hours, and are also "fever free" for 24 hours.
Thanks for your assistance!

1st graders explain The Christmas story
Want a different perspective on the Christmas story? I asked all our first graders to discuss what they think Mary and Joseph were feeling/thinking. That had such an interesting take on it. I really wish I would have recorded the whole thing! Here are some of my favorites...
**Mary and Joseph felt doomed because they were traveling on a donkey to Bethlehem, no one knew they were having Jesus and they had to stay in a smelly barn.
**Maybe Joseph was scared of the animals because he was a carpenter.
**Mary could have been worried that the animals would lick Baby Jesus.
**They felt disgusting because they had to stay and have Jesus in a feces infested barn.
**Joseph maybe wasn't ready to have a baby, so he could have been worried to be a dad.
**I think Mary was excited, nervous and surprised because it was her first baby and didn't know what to expect.
**Mary said, "whoa!" And backed up to her bed when Gabriel came and told her she was having Jesus.
**Joseph felt bad because he couldn't do any better than a barn for Mary and Jesus and it was his job to take care of them.
Musical Notes
Any student interested in participating in this year’s RAA Young Artist Showcase for Music needs to sign up with Miss Kushman by this Friday, December 16 by noon. Late sign ups are not accepted.
Congratulations to all of our groups who have performed in the last week and a half! The K-2 had a fabulous performance to a full house. The choir sang at the Live Nativity and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The band and choir performed their Christmas concert for the school. It has been a busy performance season here at SLS!

St Louis 6th Grade Basketball Recap
The St. Louis Cardinals 6th grade boys basketball team pushed their record to an impressive 11-2 on the season with a win over St. Michaels on December 8th by a score of 33-22. Defensively, the Cardinals shut down the offensive weapons of St. Michaels and put on an impressive performance. The Cardinals only allowed seven points in the first half! Offensively, the Cardinals are blessed with the ability to pass and share the ball amongst all the players. The team was led in scoring by Charlie Schebler (16), Noah Tuveson (9), Alec Bunselmeier (2), Nate Vankirk (2), Jack Hollins (2), and Abe Hollins (2). Another key aspect of the win was the effort of Luke Meyer and Aiden Geers who played really aggressive defense!
The 6th grade will play again their last game of the season next Wednesday night in the Activity Center against Greendale.
Thanks,
Ryan Schebler
St. Louis 7th grade boys basketball away at South Dearborn
The St. Louis 7th grade boys basketball team was able to get one in the win column Tuesday evening at South Dearborn. The young Squires defended their home court well but the Cardinals brought the intensity to secure the win 43-23.
Scoring for the Cards was led by Cody Mohr followed by Thomas Raver, Abe Streator, Adam Vogelsang and Ryan Reder. Really good defense by Cayden Pohlman against South Dearborn's quick ball handlers enabled several turnovers that St. Louis converted. Joseph Suttmann and Kyle Salatin worked hard in the low post and didn't give up many baskets to the South Dearborn bigs!!
Thank you,
Jim Mohr

Cincy Music Series - The Gift Of Music For Christmas
Hope many of you have finished the majority of your shopping, cookies are baked and the cards are in the mail - me neither. I am WAY behind. Heading to Texas on business tomorrow and hoping I may experience some warmer weather. As soon as I get back, I will have to kick t up a notch.
An important piece of news. The Cincy Music Series is going to begin including some additional charities in our philanthropy. We want to keep our focus on education and children’s health. In our mission to support Catholic education, we will begin including a charitable organization to support at each show. This will hopefully increase our exposure while helping make the Cincy Music Series more impactful for families in Cincinnati.
At the Sierra Hull show in January, we will include support for the Aubrey Rose Foundation. It is a wonderful Foundation spearheaded by Jerry and Nancy Hollenkamp. They support families who come in to Children’s Hospital and provide financial assistance. They also have a scholarship program for students about to enter Catholic High Schools. We are proud to have them on board with us.
Please see the bulletin info below. We appreciate your support and wish you all the best throughout
the Christmas season.
Warmest Regards,
Pete Ellerhorst President Cincy Music Series PO Box 11011 Cincinnati, Ohio 45211
