All apps should be free of charge.

AFTER SCHOOL REHEARSALS:
Concert preparation requires that we rehearse with all three cadet band classes combined since they are separated during the day. These rehearsals are in the DMS band room the week after Thanksgiving break. Please go ahead and get these on your calendar!
Tuesday 12/3 - 3:30-4:30
Wednesday 12/4 - 3:30-4:30
(DMS BANDS in concert on 12/5!)
All beginner band students should have a BLACK BINDER for class. They can bring in $1 and get one from us if they need to (or bring a new binder of another color to trade).
Each of our beginner classes is doing a phenomenal job! We know you will be so impressed with their progress when you hear them at our concert on December 5!
Concert/Symphonic Bands
Chair Test music has gone out for both Concert and Symphonic Bands. The audition consists of three scales and the first 12 measures of the MST exercise (or mallet exercise for percussion). Auditions will be the Monday and Tuesday of Thanksgiving week, and may be done live in class or on Google classroom. See Google Classroom for details.
Please remember to be checking google classroom for band classes. Don't leave assignments not turned in or you'll recieve a zero in the gradebook. If you turn one in late, send us an email and give us time to process the grades.
Uniform Order Forms are past due. Form is included below if you need to print/send in on Mon. EVERYONE must turn in a form, even if you already have a uniform. There is a box for "check here if you already own."
Uniforms will begin coming in this week and will be distributed as quickly as we are able. Please have your student try them on as soon as possible and let us know of any issues in sizing. The dresses and some of the pants will most likely need to be hemmed, so please make sure you allow ample time to check the uniforms before our concert.
Holiday Concert is 12/5/19! PLEASE block off this evening on your calendar. It will be held at BJHS.
JAZZ BAND
This week on Monday afternoon:
Holiday Jazz Band rehearsal (3:30-4:30) - Extra opportunity open to any members of Symphonic/Concert Band who want to learn a few fun jazz pieces for the Holiday Concert. (You don't have to be signed up for the Jazz Band class to participate!) Watch the newsletter for dates of when we practice!
FUNDRAISING
Publix Fundraiser
The little tags that once linked to DMS Band are no longer valid. Publix is moving to a system similar to Kroger. To sign-up, you’ll need to go to www.publix.com or the Publix app on your phone. You will need to setup or sign-in to your existing account. Choose “My Publix Partner” and enter Discovery Middle School - Madison, AL.
Kroger Fundraiser
Signing up for Kroger rewards is one of the easiest ways you can fundraise for the band. You can link your existing card to DMS by following the information below.
Registration Instructions:
The Kroger Community Rewards program is an ideal way to support your favorite non-profit or
charity organization. The program allocates funds to participating organizations based on the purchases that registered members, family and friends of the organization have made at Kroger using their Kroger Plus card. Each individual should enroll their Kroger Plus Cards online at the Kroger secure website, www.krogercommunityrewards.com and then choose the organization they wish to support.
To use the Kroger Community Rewards Program:
1. Register your Kroger Plus card online at krogercommunityrewards.com
• Be sure to have your Kroger Plus card handy (you will need the number)
• If you do not yet have a Kroger Plus card, they are available at the customer service desk at any Kroger.
• Click on Sign In/Register
• Click on SIGN UP TODAY in the ‘New Customer?’ box (unless you have previously
registered online).
• Sign up for a Kroger Rewards Account by entering zip code, clicking on favorite store,
entering your email address and creating a password, agreeing to the terms and conditions
• You will then get a message to check your email inbox and click on the link within the body of the email to finalize card registration.
• Click on My Account and use your email address and password to proceed to the next step.
2. Link your card with DMS Band
• Log into your account at krogercommunityrewards.com
• Click on Edit Kroger Community Rewards information and input your Kroger Plus card
Number.
• Update or confirm your information.
• Enter DISCOVERY BAND, select organization from list and click on confirm.

Tips:
• REMEMBER, purchases will not count for the DMS Band until after you have registered your card and linked it to the DMS Band
• If you use your phone number (alternateID) at the register instead of swiping your card, call 800-576-4377 and select option 4 to get your Kroger Plus card number.
• You must swipe your registered Kroger Plus card (or use the alternate ID that is associated
with your registered Kroger Plus card) when shopping for each purchase to count.
Recommended Reed Brands
Great for stocking stuffers!! :)
We recommend first year players start on a 2.5 strength reed and aim to move up to a size 3 by the second year of playing. Strength of reed should increase by the second year. We don't recommend anyone performing on higher than a 3.5.
1 - Vandoren
Compare strengths
2 - Rico Royal
Speaking of Stocking Stuffers...
Band Room Supply Wish List
-CANDY for bribing...we mean...encouraging our students! !
