Navigation Act-1650

The purpose of the navigation acts were to put the theory of mercantilism into actual practice. During this act the colonists were only able to trade with English or colonial ships. Also sugar, tobacco, and indigo could only be shipped within the empire. In 1733 Britian passed the sugar act which put a tax on the sugar that were being imported from the French West Indies. The colonists disagreed with this act which caused resentment against Britain. Also it stopped colonial manufacturing.

The Stamp Act-1765

The stamp act taxed everything printed on paper. It was created to make money to protect the colonies and it helped pay off the war debt. Samuel Adams and the committee of correspondence boycotted and sent letters to the other colonies to tell them about the British taxes and they told them how to fight the taxes. Samuel Adams created another group called the sons of liberty and their purpose was to protest and use violence to get their message across. Because many people did not like the stamp on act they created a stamp act congress. This congress was reepresented by 9 people from 9 different colonies. They wrote a parilament that asked if the king would repeal the stamp act. King George III repealed the stamp act but he got mad that the colonists were acting against him and he sent more troops to Boston.

The quartering Act-1765

After the stamp act Britain sent more troops. Because of this King George III made the quartering act which made the colonists clothe, feed, and house the soldiers. The colonists had two major issues with this. One was that they didn't like that soldiers had writs of assistance. Writs of assistance are blank search warrants. This means that soldiers could look through the any house they wanted with the blank search warrants. The second issue was housing the soldiers cost a lot of money.

The Coercive or Intolerable Act was the result of Britain getting mad because of the Boston Tea Party. There were four laws that came with the Intolerable act. One of them were the colonists had to stop trading from Boston and Britain. The second law was that the colonists couldn't have town meetings. The third law gave Britain total control over all the colonies. And the fourth law strengthened the Quartering act. This act spread revolutionary spirit through all the colonies.

The American Revolution-1763-1776

The American Revolution was a war for independence from Britain. This caused political ideas and caused revolutions around the world. What caused the colonists to start the american revolution was Britain treating the colonies very badly and not respecting them. Also Britain taxing the colonies too much. I think that the colones were justified by declaring their independence from Britain because they started something that turned into what we have today which is The Untied States Of America.
