MakerSpace Open Times
MakerSpace was a big hit! The students loved all the activities. Students are welcome to come during the day except from 12:00-12:30. You can send up to 2 students per class at a time. Mondays Kdg and 1st, Tuesdays and Wednesdays 2nd and 3rd, Thursdays and Fridays 4th and 5th grades. April 28 is AIMS so please don't send any students. We will be starting Monday, March 11.
One Tab Chrome Extension
Here's a quick way to share a list of sites with students. When selecting sites, keep each site you want to share open in it's own tab. After you have all your sites, click the OneTab Chrome Extension to gather all your links into a single list which can then be shared as a webpage. Simply give your students the OneTab url or QR code and voila...they have all those links on one webpage that took no time to create! If you want to use this be sure to go to the Chrome web store to get the free One Tab app.
Research Tool for Chromebooks and Dells
Ctrl+F helps you make a quick decision about whether or not a site or article will be helpful to you (or not). Typing Ctrl+F pops up a box where you type in a keyword. It searches and highlights that word on the page allowing you to skim those sentences to make that quick judgement. It's a time saver because you don't have to read all sites found from a search engine deeply...just the ones that are relevant to your task. You can read more about Ctrl+F here.
Open Ebooks App
We have been introducing this to your students. It's a great app and has thousands of free books! It's only available on tablets and phones currently, but we are hoping it will be available soon for chromebooks. Just a reminder that staff accounts are for the K-12 selections. If you have any log in problems let us know.
BOGO Book Fair
It's almost time again! YES another book fair but this one is BOGO! Looking forward to seeing you here. We will be open from May 9-13. We will have class previews Friday, May 6, Monday, May 9 and Tuesday, May 10. Students can purchase anytime. This is a shorter fair and we are only open during the day.
Picnic Table is Installed!
The weather is finally getting warmer so it's time to enjoy the outdoors! Anyone is welcome to use the table outside the learning commons. We love eating out there on nice days!
Thanks to Stacey for making it happen!
Battle of the Books
Battle of the Books was last Monday at Central. The kids had so much fun! Central took 4th place out of 10 schools.
National Library Week is April 10-16
Help us celebrate libraries (or learning commons as the case may be) every day next week! We will have contests and prizes for staff and students as well as reminders of the many ways the LC transforms.
To get things started, let us know the biggest way libraries have changed since you were in school. One lucky respondent will receive a Wehrenberg movie ticket! (Winner will be selected Monday afternoon at 3 p.m.)
