Biography

Pedro Berruguete was born in 1440 in Paredes de Nava, Spain. He spent most of his life in Ávila and also died there. Pedro's education came mostly from being influenced by by the Flemish people, and the Italians, which also gave him knowledge of the contemporary Italian paintings. His lifestyle was considered very busy. He was working most of his life. He would volunteer to help others out, and was a court painter to many kingdoms. Three pieces of Pedro's works is the Auto-da-fe, King David, predella from Life of the Virgin Retablo Mayor de Santa Eulal, and The Burning of the Books from Scenes from the Life of Saint Dominic Guzman. It was said that he was probably commissioned by the Inquisitor-General Torquemada.

The Work

The Burning of the Books from Scenes from the Life of Saint Dominic Guzman

The painting I found the most interesting was The Burning of the Books from Scenes from the Life of Saint Dominic Guzman. This piece was created in 1480's-1490's. You can find this painting in the Museo del Prado, Madrid. This piece is significant because it's 3-Dimension makes it seem as though you are in the painting, and it makes you think that your are looking into a real life room. It uses an artistic technique such as perspectivism. I found it so interesting because it makes me feel like I’m in the picture. It makes me feel like I’m in the room. This painting is an example of perspectivism because it displays 3-D and depth. It also makes objects look further away than they actually are.
