Otsego High School

Weekly Newsletter (Semester I Week 7)

From the Desk of Mr. O'Shea

Next week is HOMECOMING!

Students will be participating in our traditional spirit week activities and we will also be voting for our Homecoming class attendants and of course the Queen and King. We will have our dance this Saturday as well from 8:00pm - 11:00pm. We welcome and encourage parents to come to the school and take photos of your children entering the dance on our red carpet. This years theme is "Knights, Camera, Action". For more information about the dance please see below. I have also listed the daily dress up themes for spirit week next week. Monday is Pajama Day. Please remember that although we are encouraging kids to show their school spirit by dressing up in theme, there are lines and we may require a child to change if what they are wearing is too distracting or revealing. We want a lot of school spirit but it needs to remain appropriate.

Monday- Pajama Day/sleeping beauties

Tuesday- Dress up like a teacher day

Wednesday- Hollywood Day (movie characters, couples etc.)

Thursday- Color Wars: Freshmen = Grey Soph. = White Juniors = Orange Seniors = Black

Friday- American Pride/Red, White and Blue Friday

***During the Homecoming dance this year we would like to get as many parents as possible to line the entrance outside the commons and take pictures of the kids as they enter the dance. We will have a Red Carpet and we want to make it like the Paparazzi outside a movie premier. Parents feel free to come and watch the kids enter the dance and take pictures. However, only students and chaperones will be allowed in the dance. Thanks and we hope to see you there.

Otsego Local Schools FAMILY NIGHT

Otsego Schools would like to announce our 1st ever “family night” on Monday, November 9th. The goal of Family Night is to encourage families to take the evening to focus on each other and spend time together as a family in whatever way works for your family.

There will be NO homework and NO assignments or tests the next day. There will also be NO athletic practices or any other extra-curricular activities on family night.

We hope you can take advantage of this night and celebrate being a family! Spending time with your family is a great investment, an investment that doesn’t take a lot of money. It just takes time and commitment. Our lives are all extremely busy and fast paced. We all need reminded from time to time how important spending quality time with your family is. Research shows that the benefits of family time on a regular basis can increase academic performance, decrease behavioral problems, decrease violence, and decreases the chances of drug abuse.

A few ideas to get you started thinking about your evening together.

Games: Play your favorite family board game or card game

Dinner: Plan a meal together and cook together

Memories: Look through old photos and family videos

Get Creative: Create an art project, crafts, or build something as a family

Get Fit: If the weather is nice, go for a long walk in a park as a family

We are also working with area businesses to offer discounts at local restaurants, movie theaters, and other family fun activities. We will provide more details on these locations later this month. We will continue to provide information on Otsego Family Night, as we get closer to the day. If at all possible, please clear your calendar on November 9th and spend time with family!
