Sierra Verde Weekly Update

April 16, 2021

Another Great Week @ SV

Most of our Vipers have finished up state testing this week as our Reading, Math, and Writing sessions are now complete except for those who need makeup tests. Next week, we still have our AZ Science Test for 5th and 8th graders only. We appreciate your continued support as we go into our last week of formal testing. We also want to congratulate our Softball and Baseball teams and coaches who wrapped up their Spring seasons with wins on Wednesday during their final game.

As of Wednesday 4/14, all water fountains will be open again. With water fountains and bottle filling stations available, we will no longer be giving out water bottles in the Nurse's office. Students will need to make it a point to bring your hydro flasks or else use the water fountains.

Attention 4-7th Graders

Band Sign-ups are now available for ALL upcoming 5th-8th Graders for the 21-22 school year! Never been in band before?? No problem! If you're looking to just start band and are entering 6th-8th grade, we would be more than happy to have you join us! Make sure that when you go to sign up your student(s), that you have them take the instrument matching tool as well! This will help me place you on the instrument that you will be most successful on. :) If you are just starting band and going into 6th-8th Grade, plan on joining us for Turbo Band on Monday/Wednesdays after school on top of you scheduled band class during the day! We are also currently gauging interest for a separate percussion ensemble class during the school day. The percussion ensemble class would work on the same pieces that the brass and woodwinds are working on, while also working on pieces that are just for percussion.

Make sure to go to Mr. Lynch's website to register your student for band! This registration is for all NEW and RETURNING Members. If you have any questions about required materials for the 21-22 school year, please reach out to Mr. Lynch at or refer to the Sierra Verde Band Website. Thank you, and I hope to see YOU be part of the band!

Middle School Cross Country

We are having a condensed Cross Country season this year starting Monday, April 19th and going through Thursday, May 13th. Starting this year Cross Country is officially apart of 7th/8th grade athletics and will only be for 7th/8th graders. This sport will be having tryouts as we are looking for students who want to run. Mrs. O'Berry (an avid runner) will be coaching for this season and Mrs. Thomas will return next year. Practices will be held on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 7:00 a.m. - 8:00 a.m.

Please make sure your child has COMPLETED their "paperwork" on Register My Athlete. Their status should say "Ready for Tryouts". There is a girls cross country and a boys cross country, but they will be running together. Please check out our Sierra Verde Athletics page for dates regarding our 3 meets. If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Sara Cullen, our Athletic Director. If your child is trying out, please have them stop by Mrs. Cullen's room (415) for a Cross Country Release form to be signed BEFORE the first day of tryouts.

Sierra Verde is Hiring

We currently have a vacancy for one full-time night custodian at SV. This is a full-time position with benefits and flexible hours through the summer. If you know anyone who may want to join the SV team, please contact our Mrs. Morales or give our office a call 623-376-4800.
