SW Counseling Department earns Award
The American School Counselor Association (ASCA) has announced that Southwestern Consolidated School District of Shelby County has a Recognized ASCA Model Program (RAMP). The RAMP designation, awarded for aligning to the criteria in the ASCA National Model, recognizes schools that are committed to delivering a comprehensive, data-driven school counseling program and an exemplary educational environment. Southwestern Consolidated Schools was awarded the Indiana Gold Star Award from the Indiana Department of Education for our school counseling program earlier this school year. What an honor to have our counseling program recognized at the state and national level! Southwestern is pleased to receive this distinction during National School Counseling Week. National School Counseling Week, sponsored by ASCA, highlights the tremendous impact school counselors can have in helping students achieve school success and plan for a career. Mrs. Piper Hottell, Southwestern's School Counselor, works passionately to guide and assist all of our Spartans achieve college and career readiness skills. Thank you to Mrs. Hottell for all that you do for our Spartans!

Spartans in the News
Once a Spartan, Always A Spartan
4th Graders learn about the civil war
Southwestern Elementary 4th grade students learned about Indiana during the Civil War by a special guest speaker, Mr. Shawn Bentz. Mr. Bentz is part of the 11th Indiana Zouaves which specialize in Indiana's contribution to the Civil War. Mr. Bentz shared his vast historical knowledge along with uniforms, campfire essentials, and additional artifacts and replicas that would have been used during this time. Greer Bulmer, 4th grader, stepped back in time as he tried on a replica uniform that a solider would have worn. Thank you, Mr. Bentz, for sharing your knowledge and time with our Spartans!

Thank you, Athletic Hall of Fame Committee
To Mr. Days, Mr. Chase, and the members of the Southwestern High School Athletic Hall of Fame Selection Committee,
Jeremy's family and I would like to thank each of you for your work in establishing Southwestern's Athletic Hall of Fame. It is a wonderful way to recognize and honor those individuals whose dedication and sacrifice contributed to the athletic program, as well as provided inspiration and motivation for those who followed.
It was an honor and a privilege for Jeremy to be included in the inaugural class, and it means so much to our family that he is remembered. Thank you also to Lindsay Chase for taking the pictures and videos. The ceremony that evening will always be a special memory for us, and the video display is a fantastic idea and a wonderful way to display all the information it contains. We thank you again for the time and work each of you contributed.
Sincerely,
Jackie Nickel
