Wildcat Wednesday Builds Community and Develops Leaders
Classrooms are paired with another grade level to meet three times per month in PRIDE Time. Grade level groups are grades 5-2, 4-1 and 3-K. The partnerships are designed to build community, build relationships, and offer opportunities for mentorship, leadership and personal growth. The application of the Seven Habits will be the focus of Pride Time. This will be building-wide and include all students and staff. Pride Time has been developed to give people access: adults opportunities to connect and mentor students, and it gives students opportunities to connect with and mentor peers.

Happy Fall to our Washington Wildcat family! I am excited to provide full-time counseling services here at Washington this year. With the additional time I will now have at Washington, I will be able to get to know students better, meet individually with more students and facilitate more small groups. September brings the beginning of many things at school. The Peacemaker program will be starting with training on September 21st. Peacemakers will begin on the playground on September 24th.
Read more here to learn about our Peacemaker program.
Peacemakers are a group of 30-40 fourth and fifth grade students who volunteer to be on the playground for the entire recess period about one or two times per month. Students apply for this leadership role. There is typically one fourth grade student and one fifth grade student paired together per “shift”. Peacemakers are excellent at problem solving, helping, including and encouraging. Peacemakers are trained to help talk through a conversation when students are in conflict. Peacemakers also keep a look out for students who may be lonely on the playground to help connect them with other students. When there are students who are unsure of the playground rules or using equipment in an unsafe manner, Peacemakers are trained to remind students of the playground rules and the proper use of equipment.
