Mrs. Miller's Weekly Update

March 21 - March 27, 2022

Just like that - spring break is over. I hope you all had some time to relax and enjoy a break from the regular routine. The sunshine and warm weather this past week has been so great. As I am beginning this newsletter, it is sunny and 60 degrees. Tomorrow is the first day of spring and the first day of the 4th Quarter of our school year. I feel like this time of year is always rejuvenating and with so much to look forward to.

The quote above is so fitting, and it reminds me of spring and being positive. It also makes me think of another of my favorite quotes, seen below:

I love this quote because it's true. Some days are more challenging than others, and it's important to focus on the good.

Spring break was a great opportunity for me to do that. For 3 days, I pretty much disconnected from social media and the news and focused on being present in the moment. That is something I don't do nearly often enough, and it felt great!

As things wind back up, I am certain our days will be fast and furious from now until the end of the school year. We have our spring sports and activities to look forward to, and of course graduation and all of the end of the year celebrations. Before we know it, just like this week of spring break, the school year will be over.

So.... the challenge I present to myself and to each of you is to focus on the positive. When things get overwhelming and stressful, take a deep breath and find the good in the situation. I know this is easier said than done sometimes. However, when we can't change the circumstances, we can change how we respond to them. Our reaction is something we can control even if the situation is something we can't. It's all about our mindset.

"Every day may not be good, but there is something good in every day." Focus on the good!

Speaking of "good" and "positive", Mr. Obermann and our GHV art students have been hard at work over the course of the school year. From sketching to painting to sculpting to pottery, our kids are learning from Mr. Obermann and it shows!

We are fortunate to have such talented artists at GHVHS, but don't take my word for it. You can see many of our students' pieces showcased at the North Iowa Student Art Exhibition in Clear Lake through April 1st.

For a sneak peak, look at the pictures below. We even have a display of our Rubik's Cube with faces outside the Clear Lake Art Center! Thanks to Rafe VanDusseldorp, Jake Burress, and Matt Obermann for their help in transporting and setting up the display.

As a reminder, we have conferences from 4:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday. If you have question or concerns about your students' learning, please be sure to set aside some time to visit with our teachers.

And even if you don't have questions or concerns, come visit us anyhow. You can check out the latest improvements to our building....

While we were on spring break, there was a lot of activity in our building. You will be blown away; there will be no doubt you are in Cardinal Country!

Below is a sneak peek, and there is more where this came from! :)

While things were buzzing in the building over spring break, many of our students were also busy with school events. Next week's newsletter with share details about Mock Trial, Individual State Speech, and the band trip to Florida!

I'm so proud of and so grateful for everything we do at GHVHS!
