Multicultural Celebration Day Sign Up
Multicultural Celebration Day is coming soon January 27, 4-6pm..
The purpose of the McKinley Multicultural Celebration Day event is:
- To celebrate the diversity at McKinley.
- To offer an opportunity for families to share about their culture/heritage/background.
- To provide an opportunity for students to learn about each other and make connections.
- An event led by parents and family members, who work in coordination with teachers and staff, to share their family's cultural traditions with children. Extended relatives are invited to join in to lead an activity. At this event students will be introduced to at least 10 cultural experiences.
At this event children celebrate the diversity of their world. They learn first-hand how the unique traditions of our different cultural backgrounds can enrich our lives in wonderful ways. The day is made most memorable, in a personal way, because children learn about different cultures from the families of their friends, building bonds as they celebrate differences.
Similar to the format of Family Literacy Night, at this event students and families have a passport and go from table to table for different cultural experiences. Parents, please sign up below to lead a table to share about your family's culture. Your table can be an informational table, or it can be an activity.
For example, here are some previous tables:
- AASG- Making African Masks
- ELAC- La Loteria
- Japanese Origami
- Cooking demo with recipe take away
- Teach a dance (Irish dance, limbo, folklorico)
- Display of historical clothing
- Make world flags and learn about their design
- Learn to play dreidel
- Play playground games from the Bronx
- Telling a folk tale
- Learning ASL phrases
- Chinese calligraphy
- African drumming
The deadline to sign-up to lead a table is January 17. Please sign up early so we know if we have enough tables to have the event. https://forms.gle/ywSZ5XN1Y8r8mURg8
Title I Funding
McKinley Needs your Help!
In order for McKinley to qualify for Title I funding, 35% of our students must qualify for free-reduced lunch via the Free-Reduced Lunch Form. Now that all students receive 2 free meals, less families are submitting the Free-Reduced Lunch Form since it's no longer needed for meals. We are asking all families to please complete the form, which has been renamed the "Educational Benefits Form," so that we can potentially qualify for Title I funding.
Title I funds things like our theater program, intervention teacher, professional development for staff, DEI classroom libraries, curriculum and assessment materials to help close the achievement gap, and more.
The deadline to submit the form is November 30th. Please submit your form today https://bit.ly/SchoolBenefits22-23
