American School Counselor Association Endorses Every Student Succeeds Act
ALEXANDRIA, VA – The American School Counselor Association (ASCA) has
announced its support for the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), a bill to
reauthorize the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA). This
bipartisan legislation includes numerous provisions that will allow states and
school districts to expand their school counseling programs to ensure all
students have the skills necessary to graduate from high school college and
career ready.
“ASCA applauds the leadership of Representatives Kline and Scott and
Senators Alexander and Murray in making ESEA reauthorization a priority and
rolling up their sleeves and getting it to a place where it can realistically cross
the finish line,” said Kwok-Sze Wong, Ed.D., ASCA executive director. “We
commend the House of Representatives for passing the measure with
resounding bipartisan support.”
ASCA is pleased that the bill goes beyond just the specifics of classroom
instruction and school leadership by addressing the necessity of academic
counseling, career counseling and safe and healthy school environments.
