Principally Speaking
The next round of ISTEP+ testing will take place "on-line", so this means that not all students can test at the same time. Students will have to cycle through the available computer labs over the three-week testing window. The testing window opens on Monday, April 16 and closes on Friday, May 4th. As always, I am honored and thankful to serve you and your students as the principal of Danville Community Middle School.

April is College Readiness Month
For 5th graders college seems like a long way off, doesn’t it? In a way, it is. But there are some simple things you can do to help make the journey easier. Just follow these easy steps. You’ll learn all about different jobs and colleges — and have fun along the way! Get a high school head start. Click here - https://learnmoreindiana.org/students/k-5-students/
For 6th to 8th graders, high school is right around the corner. Once you get there, you’ll be getting everything in order to go to college, but you can start now. Just follow the steps for middle schoolers, and get to know more about the colleges in Indiana — and the careers they lead to. Click here - https://learnmoreindiana.org/students/6-8-students/
To celebrate College Readiness Month, students and staff are invited to participate in the following Career Dress Up Days:
- Thursday (4/12)-Dress for or as your future career!
- Friday (4/13)-Wear your favorite College Gear!
Are You Moving?
It is that time of year when we begin to turn our sights toward next year. To that end, we are asking that parents who know you will be moving out of the Danville district next year to please contact Mrs. Horan. This helps us to create class lists and also prepare records at the end of the year to forward to your child's new school. We hate to see you go but want to make your move as easy as possible so your child has a smooth transition.
Choir News
A few words from Mrs. Dilanchian in the choir department which hopefully may help answer concerns or questions. In 7th and 8th grade choir class, music choices are both pop and traditional. Some students like to sing but fear being called out to sing alone. This is very rare in my class. Another fear students have is they are not the "best". Singing is for everyone, not just the best (whomever those people may be). Emphasis is placed on participating and learning class material. There is a mandatory concert each semester with an admission charge of $3.00 - which helps us purchase new music and pay for program expenses. Continuing on into high school, we have many students involved in sports and clubs that still participate in choir. The program is flourishing. I hope you check us out and consider joining!

Parents, Be On the Lookout! Juuling: The Modern Way to Smoke in School
Parents, be on the lookout! A new trend has begun among students across the nation and even here at Danville Community Middle School. Some students have learned a new way to get access to nicotine without smoking a cigarette or using the typical e-cigarette. It is called juuling. The devices used look like USB drives and can be overlooked by parents, guardians, and others attempting to maintain the safety and health of our teens. Please watch the following segment from the Today show to educate yourself.
Possessing or using a JUUL at school is prohibited. Students who use or possess a JUUL will be subject to disciplinary consequences. Please help us to keep our school safe and healthy for our students by talking with your child about the dangers of using this product.
JUULs can look like a USB and be plugged into a computer.
Juuls light up.
JUULs are small and look like an electronic device.
Attention 5th Grade Parents!

Most physicians’ and pharmacies offer these vaccines. The Hendricks County Health Department also offers them by appointment during normal scheduled clinic hours.
