From The Desk Of Mrs. Doyle....
Dear Families,
Happy Thanksgiving! It has been joyful hearing all of the things our students and staff are grateful for this week. There have been lots of comments about family members, friends, sports teams, great books, video games, sleepovers, vacations, teachers, and so much more. I agree with all of these (well, maybe not video games) and would add that I am grateful my son is coming home from college this weekend and our whole family will be together. I hope you are surrounded by family this week as well.
FOOD PANTRY
One way we take care of others is by participating in the Food Pantry drive. I am so pleased to share that the Sudbury elementary schools delivered 200 banana boxes worth of food on Friday, which smashed last year’s record of 143 boxes. This makes such a difference to so many families who rely on the Sudbury Food Pantry. Before our boxes arrived, the shelves were looking very bare, but now so many families will have a happy Thanksgiving. Thank you to everyone who has contributed and to all our parent volunteers and all our staff members who organize and deliver these much-needed food boxes.
JULIE WILLIAMS AND THE NEW JULIE WILLIAMS
We are all so grateful for the past 11 years working with Julie Williams in the Main Office. With her warm smile, easy laugh, and positive attitude, she is simply beloved by students, staff, and families alike. We knew when we hired for her position that we needed someone who exudes positive energy and warmth along with strong professional competence and we are pleased to share with you that we have found such a person. Please join us in welcoming Karen Velonis as our new Administrative Assistant. Karen will start on Monday, November 29. She and Julie will work together for the first few days, as well as a few additional training and transition days throughout December.
ATTENDANCE REMINDERS
Sudbury Public Schools recognizes the positive impact of consistent school attendance on academic achievement. Children who regularly attend school are more engaged and achieve at higher levels. Regular and punctual school attendance is essential for success in school. It is also required by law.
An excused absence includes:
Documented illness or quarantine
Bereavement or serious illness in family
Weather so inclement as to endanger the health
Religious observances
Other exceptional reasons with approval of the principal
An unexcused absence includes:
Chronic absences or tardies without medical documentation
Truancy
Non-emergency family situations
Family vacations
Families of students with five or more unexcused absences, tardies, or early dismissals will receive notification from the school and a meeting to meet with a school administrator will be coordinated. You can read more about school attendance here.
COVID VACCINATIONS
Many students are getting their COVID-19 vaccinations now that children 5-11 are eligible. It is important to know that people who are fully vaccinated do not need to participate in Test and Stay or quarantine when they are within 3 feet of a person who tests positive for COVID-19. For more information about vaccinations for children, please visit this page of the CDC website.
On behalf of everyone at Noyes, we wish you and your family a healthy and happy Thanksgiving holiday.
Warmly,
Annette Doyle
NOYES COMMUNITY
I’d also like to share my gratitude for our incredible school community. As you’ll see in Mr. Gorgone’s latest video, we have fun at school and we enjoy learning together and being together. When we feel connected to our community, we are more invested, we try harder, and we take care of each other. The Noyes community is so special because every member is valued; this doesn’t happen by accident. Our incredible Noyes staff makes certain that students have positive connections with staff and learn how to develop better friendships with peers. We are like family….watch!
