Guidance - Greetings from the Counselor
Well, here we are. The last week of school. Since I started kindergarten way back in 1977, the
very same year Star Wars first came out!, this has been the strangest year ever. We have had
some great ups, and we have had some major downs, but through it all we have stuck together and made it to the end. I am so proud of all of you guys. You have worked hard with more distractions and changes than any of us could possibly imagine.
The last card I am sharing with you was actually chosen by my wife as she was going though the deck. She saw this one and thought it was perfect to end this crazy year on. It is a simple
reminder that no matter what is going on, the storm will pass. Storms can cause lots of damage and may seem to last for ever, but no matter what, it will pass and we get time to look around and repair the damage the storm caused. Sometimes those storms are inside us, we rage and act out and just as the storm outside, the one inside of you will pass. You will get time to look around, see what damage was caused, what we need to do to not only fix it but prevent it from happening next time. And who knows, sometimes we learn something about our selves and those around us we never knew.
This stormy year has passed, now we can use all that we have learned to look around us and re-center. Practicing all the different types of meditations we have used will help you when you need to take a break, relax when overly stressed, or you just want to take some time and just breath. Print out some mandalas you can find online and color them with your family and
friends. Enjoy the summer, relax, refresh and I can’t wait to actually see you guys next fall.
Music - Draw what you hear!
Share you picture and what song you listened to with me at my email, firstname.lastname@example.org.
Listen to how this choir uses only body percussion (snaps, claps, jumps and stomps) to make you hear a storm!
Music - Match the Rhythm
Phys. Ed/ Health - Social Health
Find three classmates that you haven't seen or heard from in a number of weeks. Find out what they have been doing.
- How are they handling this social separation?
- What have they learned about themselves during this time?
- What are their plans for the summer?
- If you are in grades 6-8 are you looking forward to moving to a new school?
- What challenges might you have?
Technology - Computer Science/Coding
We live in a world surrounded by technology. And we know that whatever field our students choose to go into as adults, their ability to succeed will increasingly hinge on understanding how technology works. But only a tiny fraction of us are learning computer science, and fewer students are studying it now versus a decade ago. As I saw on Twitter yesterday: "Life is too short for the wrong career." And, it is never too early to begin developing this skill set!
See the .pdf document below for some online coding sites for you to use!
