District Newsletter - April 2023
A Message From The Superintendent
Dear School Community,
We are very proud of our exceptionally talented students in Spring Hill ISD! Our students excel in a vast array of programs. If you attend an academic activity, sporting event, fine arts performance, or program of any kind, you will see the extraordinary gifts of our students on display.
Our SHISD teachers, coaches, directors, and support staff, are dedicated to providing our students with transformative opportunities for growth and success. Spring Hill educators discover, nurture, grow, and support the potential talents within all of our students. I am forever grateful for the immeasurable difference educators make in our school community each and every day!
Teacher Appreciation Week is May 8 - 12. When you have the opportunity, please thank a teacher for the life-changing experiences they provide SHISD students.
Sincerely,
Penny Fleet

Spring Hill High School Teacher Receives Outstanding Teaching of the Humanities Award
Spring Hill High School teacher Emmie Drueckhammer was recently recognized by Humanities Texas as a recipient of the 2022 Outstanding Teaching of the Humanities Award. Humanities of Texas Board Member Amanda Nobles made the presentation.
Drueckhammer was selected from 600 teachers nominated across the state of Texas. She is one of only 15 teachers statewide to receive the honor for 2022. Humanities Texas presents its annual awards statewide to encourage excellence in teaching and to recognize Texas teachers who have made exemplary contributions in teaching, curriculum development, and extracurricular programming.
"The high school staff and I are very proud that Emmie is receiving this well-deserved honor," said High School Principal Melinda Tidwell. "She provides her students with an engaging and high-level learning experience each and every day. She makes learning fun, relevant, and challenging. Her students enjoy having her classes and walk away better prepared for their next step due to the experience they have with her."
2023 GLOBE Teacher of the Year Honorees!
"Math is not always a student's favorite class, but I like to help them develop the problem solving skills that they can use outside the four walls of the classroom. Students have their own strengths and learn at a different pace. I encourage them to celebrate their successes and aim to build their confidence. I tell my students often to not be afraid of failure. Without failure there is no growth. Failure drives us to change. Missing a question is an opportunity to learn by examining their mistakes. I aspire to be a teacher who instills a love of learning in the students I teach. I hold to the knowledge that the future of the world is in my classroom today."
"I believe that teaching is one of the most rewarding jobs a person can have. Getting to form relationships with these precious kiddos while watching them grow and thrive is such a privilege. I am grateful every day for the lessons that I learn through them, along with the many smiles and funny moments that we share! I truly do have the best job in the world."
Spring Hill Student Council Earns Statewide Recognition
Spring Hill High School Student Council has been recognized by the Texas Association of Student Councils (TASC) for its Top Project submission, “Kick Cancer”. TASC has nearly 1200 member schools. Of those, Spring Hill is one of only ten high school student councils statewide to receive this highly-esteemed honor.
As part of the “Kick Cancer” project, Spring Hill Student Council organized monthly cancer awareness days. On those days students and staff wore a designated cancer awareness color, and Student Council members shared facts about the designated type of cancer during school announcements. The Student Council also organized a donation drive to collect items for patients at Texas Oncology, and hosted fundraising events to assist Spring Hill staff members dealing with cancer.
“I could not be prouder of the hard work and dedication my Student Council members put into this project. They truly went above and beyond to bring a little comfort to people suffering from cancer,” said Susan Curtis, SHHS Student Council Advisor. “This project really hit home for us here at Spring Hill High School as several of our staff were battling cancer this year. Thanks to our project, we were not only able to help the community, but we were also able to help the staff members.”
Projects were evaluated and selected by TASC based on how well they met their objectives; the involvement from the council, the student body, the staff, and the community; originality, and overall success.
Spring Hill High School Student Council President Luke Diggins expressed his excitement in earning this recognition saying, “Our Student Council worked so hard and to see us receiving such a prestigious award is amazing!”
