May 16 Parent Meeting for Students Currently in 3rd and 10th grade

Monday, May 16 at 6:30 pm there will be a parent informational meeting at the Bedford Senior High School auditorium for parents who are new to the chromebook program. This meeting outlines student expectations, device care, how students are going to use chromebooks in the classroom, insurance, and more. Families that already have a student in a chromebook environment do not need to attend.

End of Year Chromebook & Charger Collection

Chromebooks, cases, and chargers will be collected from students following a schedule established by each school. The building principal will send a reminder email to parents to help their child remember to bring their equipment to school on the designated return date.

MRE- June 3

DRE and JRE- June 6

JHS- June 6-7

Damaged or unreturned chargers will incur a replacement fee of $25. Your child will receive the same Chromebook they turn in when they return to school for the 2016-17 school year.

Summer Access for Students to Google Apps and Mail

All students will have access to their Mybedford Google Apps account during the summer. However, as we have done in the past, student email for elementary students will be turned off on June 10 and will be reopened at the beginning of the new school year. Email access for students in grades 6-12 will remain on so it can be utilized to communicate with students who are participating in summer coursework or activities.

2016-17 Chromebook Insurance Cost

For the 2016-17 school year, insurance coverage on chromebooks will remain at the same rate of $30 per machine. The change for next year is the elimination of the $25 deductible per insurance claim. If a student accidentally damages their chromebook, the first breakage will be forgiven. There will be a fee structure implemented for students that have multiple breaks. Vandalism and/or repeated negligence of care is not accidental therefore, will not be covered by insurance. Repair costs will be assessed for damages caused by vandalism or negligence. Families that have 3 or more students in the 1:1 program will have insurance capped at $90. Insurance must be paid for students to take devices home. Families experiencing hardship circumstances may contact the building principal to discuss financial assistance.

Optional Protective Chromebook Carrying Cases Available to Purchase through June 3

To satisfy requests for recommendations for Chromebook carrying cases, we are making the messenger style bag seen in the picture below available for purchase. The District will continue to provide the impact resistant, plastic clamshell case that stays on Chromebooks for students going into grades 4 thru 6, 8, 9, and 11.

These high quality cases with rigid, padded walls and corners made by BumpArmor retail at $44 but we are able to offer them at a significantly discounted price of $25 to our students. We are taking prepaid orders NOW through Friday, June 3. Click here to print an order form and send in the completed form along with cash or $25 check made payable to Bedford Public Schools. Your student will receive a receipt for payment and the case will be available to pick up at the same time your child picks up their chromebook in the fall.

If you would like to see a live sample, there is a case in each building front office available for parents and students to view.

(This optional BumpArmor case is not compatible with the black always on carrying cases that current 6th graders are using and will continue to use next year.)
