Respect for All Week (RFA) February 5th, 8th-11th, 2021 The NYCDOE Respect for All (RFA) program was launched in 2007 to build the capacity of staff and students to actively promote a community of inclusion in each of our schools. The importance of promoting respect for diversity in our daily practice is vital to creating and sustaining an inclusive school climate and culture in each of our schools so that all students feel valued, supported and safe. | Visionary of the Month- Poet Amanda Gorman Amanda Gorman read an original work at President Joe Biden’s inauguration on Jan. 20 after he was sworn in as the nation’s 46th president, Gorman read “The Hill We Climb,” building on a tradition of poets who have read for incoming presidents. Gorman is the youngest of these inaugural poets to offer her verse at the age of 22. | February is Black History Month During Black History Month, students will engage in Courageous Conversations about this history of black Americans and the current movement toward justice for all people. There will be a focus on a daily Black Visionary, as we have done in previous years, along with a deeper study of The Black Family, the national theme for this year. Families wishing to engage more deeply in Black History Month may reach out to our Parent Coordinator, Ms. Kawaling at 31R068@schools.nyc.gov. |
