Our Summer Programs Have Begun!

This week students in extended year summer programs began at Pleasant Street. Between our preschool, kindergarten, and elementary school program we have over 30 students brightening up our school building. We also have another 24 students who are participating in our title one funded summer tutoring program to help prevent "summer slide." After a short vacation that included some hiking, gardening, and kayaking, it is certainly nice to see so many of your children here at Pleasant Street School. Principal Ellis

Project Based Learning in Action-Ending the Year with Science Projects!

Students in Mrs. Heuer's third grade had a wonderful time sharing their science projects with classmates on Monday, June 22. We wanted to showcase these projects in our school newsletter and also let families know just how much we appreciate your support and involvement at home. Project based learning is a powerful way to engage not just the child but families as well in the richness of the learning experience. We suspect for years to come your children will reflect back and say remember when I made third grade.

For some added fun on the day science projects were presented students were allowed to wear their pajamas to school for a "read-in" celebration!

Here's One Happy Summer Gardener!

Lucas, one of our preschool students, recently stopped by with his family to harvest some fresh vegetables from the preschool garden. His face says it all! Thank you to our family volunteers who are caring for the garden during the hot hazy days of summer and reaping the benefits too of some wonderful fresh food.

Dear Families,

We want to promote continued problem solving and mathematical thinking over the summer. Students have been participating in lessons on "summer slide" in relation to reading and their retention of skills. Well, summer slide also happens in math! We have attached some summer calendar math activity packets below to keep your children fresh with their skills over the summer. These calendar packets were developed by the Cambridge Public Schools and are rich with activities, resources, websites and fun ideas to bring math to life.

Musical Chairs with Ms. Morin's Class

Principal Ellis found a few pictures of Ms. Morin's class from June 2015 that I had not previously shared. Pictured here are first graders having a great time in music with our music teacher Mrs. Girouard. How can you not have a great time playing musical chairs? In this version of the game, if you get out, no worries, you can finish the rest of the game dancing on stage with your classmates!
