Yearbook/End of Year Message
Dear Desert Cove Families,
Each year I write a message that shares the highlights of our year and offers some encouraging words to our sixth graders that will be leaving for middle school. This year is a little different due to the life-changing circumstances that took over our world and way of life.
This is a year that you will be able to recall in your memory for the rest of your life. This is the year that it seems the world shut down and we took a completely different approach to how we handle daily life. In-person school was not allowed for a period of time. When we returned to school, the classrooms looked different. People were asked to practice social distancing and wear masks. There were no field trips. Some chose to continue learning on-line. The list goes on and on. This is all a result of the Novel Coronavirus (Covid-19) Pandemic, declared March 11th, 2020.
Here is what I hope you remember about this time in history. Your teachers found a way to connect with you through google meet and classroom. They worked tirelessly to provide you with the tools you needed to keep on learning and growing academically and emotionally. You have a better understanding of the world around you and a deeper appreciation for those things we used to take for granted, like spending time with your friends, going to a movie or a restaurant, birthday parties, and family vacations. I hope you've been reminded that life is precious and not to take the things we dearly love for granted. Remember to hug your family members and “air hug” your friends. Always make an effort to show others kindness and compassion along your lifelong journey.
To my outstanding group of sixth-graders, you are an amazing group of children growing into what I believe an amazing group of adults. I know this year was difficult, but you persevered and most of all, I know you are headed for great things! I am proud of you.
Sincerely,
Stacey Orest
