FROM OUR PRINCIPAL
So many things are happening at Park! Sports are in full swing almost every day of the week and students had fun participating in a cool Color Battle fundraiser. The first quarter has ended, and report cards will be available later this month. Also, thank you to all of our parents who took the time to visit their child’s classroom on Curriculum Night.
On that note, I would like to remind everyone that school hours are from 8:30-3:40. Getting students to school on time and expecting them to stay for the entire day, barring an emergency, sends a strong message that their education is important to you. Your student will miss valuable learning time when he/she arrives late or leaves early. I look forward to seeing all of you at Parent/Teacher Conferences from October 20 - October 22.

MITIGATION PLAN UPDATE
On Friday, September 24, 2021, Madison families and staff received communication explaining that the District would continue the face covering requirement if the Superior Court of Arizona ruled in favor of the plaintiffs. The court ruling earlier this week determined that the Arizona ban on school face covering requirements is unconstitutional.
The Madison Mitigation Plan has been updated to indicate that the District is continuing the face covering requirement that has been in place since the beginning of the school year.
The Mitigation Plan can be found on the District website here: www.madisonaz.org/Page/459
PBIS stands for Positive Behavior Interventions & Supports. It seeks to reduce or eliminate poor behavior schoolwide through the encouragement of positive behaviors. PBIS decreases office discipline referrals, increases instructional time, and improves student achievement. This intentional focus on positive reinforcement is creating and maintaining a positive school climate for the students and teachers.
Now, how does PBIS help with that?
PBIS Rewards is a digital platform that allows our staff members to recognize any student anywhere for meeting behavior expectations. These behavior expectations are defined by the school then communicated and taught. So, when your child displays the behavior that is expected, they are recognized for it. The points earned through that recognition may be used to purchase items from the schools PBIS store.
How does that benefit you, the parent?
As a parent, you can monitor your child's progress and stay engaged with the PBIS Rewards Parent App! Download it for free on Google Play, the App Store, or Amazon Apps. Adding your child is simple. You'll receive an email or letter with a QR code from your school. Open the PBIS Rewards Parent App and scan this QR code. If you have multiple children using PBIS Rewards at their school, you will be able to add each one separately.
Once your child is added to your PBIS Rewards Parent App, You will be able to see how many points they have earned, which teacher rewarded them, and how they're spending their points. The App also has a convenient way to respond to messages sent by your child's teachers.
Plus, if the school is using our Advanced Referral System, you will be able to see if your student receives any discipline referrals.
PBIS Rewards is helping your child's school create a positive climate in which every student can learn and grow academically, socially, emotionally. The PBIS Rewards Parent App is a great tool for you to stay connected and engaged with the PBIS initiative. If you need more information, contact a PBIS administrator at your child's school.
ROAR PTO LOU MALNATI'S PIZZERIA FUNDRAISER
FROM OUR SCHOOL SOCIAL WORKER AND SCHOOL COUNSELOR
Hello Park families!
October is upon us as we have officially finished off our 1st quarter and began our 2nd quarter. We hope that you all had a restful break and recharged your batteries for what is to come. As the school year progresses and we continue to help foster relationships both Ms. Santos and I want to ensure that you know we are here to support our students and families.
As mentioned in our September Newsletter, we started off our Social Emotional Learning curriculum, IM IT which stands for In Madison It’s Taught. This Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Curriculum is used not only at Madison Park Middle School but at all schools within the Madison Elementary School District. Here at Madison Park, we have incorporated our Homeroom Teachers. In the month of October, the traits that we will be focusing on are Upstander, Kindness, Conflict Resolution, Honesty, and Handling Difficult Feelings. These traits are taught in the mornings by your students' homeroom teachers to start off their morning. We have seen great participation from both students and teachers by engaging with one another which fosters relationship building in the classroom.
While that is occurring in the classroom, both Ms. Santos and I have been busy with our own groups to help support and enhance certain skills from 5th to 8th grade on mindfulness, self-regulation, team-building to self-advocacy. As always please reach out to not only your students' teacher but myself and Ms. Santos if you feel your student is in need of some extra support. To find out more about myself, the School Social Worker, or Ms. Santos, our School Counselor, please visit our website! Park Lions Care
We look forward to an amazing 2nd Quarter and month of October!
