The Principal's Perspective: Return of TEDxDHS!
Greetings DHS Community Members:
Today, several Dartmouth High School students delivered dynamic presentations on a range of topics in front of a live audience for the first time in two years. Mrs. Sousa and Mrs. True organize the TEDxDHS event each year from the logistics to coaching our student presenters and everything in between. We thank them both for their countless hours of energy and enthusiasm that make such opportunities possible for our students.
As a school community, I believe there is value in taking a second to ask, what makes the TEDxDHS event so great each year? Beyond the support our students receive from our exceptional faculty, another factor is likely the high degree of voice and choice that students have in crafting their presentations. When students are passionate about topics and have the opportunity to share their well researched opinion we see exceptional work time and time again. It is for these reasons that the district and our school have been working (interrupted by COVID-19 of course) to embrace blended, personalized, and project-based learning as core instructional strategies.
Today's event was another outstanding reminder that we are moving in the right direction and one that can hopefully serve as a springboard toward refocusing our efforts to continue to look for ways to personalize the educational experience for students by consistently creating learning experiences that allow our students, as the TEDxDHS event does, to think critically and creatively while communicating and collaborating effectively.
Job well done by all of our student presenters and faculty advisors, Mrs. Sousa and Mrs. True.
Sincerely,
Ross A. Thibault
DHS Principal
