A HUGE congratulations to this year's Teachers and Classified Employees of the Year. They are being recognized for their wonderful contributions as outstanding classroom teachers and classified staff who have demonstrated a superior capacity to inspire a love of learning in students of all backgrounds and abilities and for helping AUSD be a place where students come first!

INTERNET SAFETY PARENT MEETING @ JMMS - APRIL 5TH
We are all parents of children who use the internet. The internet is a great way to stay up-to-date on the news, do research for school projects, and communicate with friends, but it can also be very dangerous. As parents, it is our responsibility to make sure that our children stay safe online. Please join us on April 5th from 6:00-7:00 PM at JMMS for an Internet Parent Safety Night.
PARENT LCAP MEETING - A CHANCE TO SHARE YOUR THINKING ON THE FUTURE OF AUSD
California's Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF) was enacted in 2013–14, and it replaced the previous school finance system which had been in existence for roughly 40 years. One of the goals of the LCFF is to simplify how state funding is provided to local educational agencies (LEAs). The Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP) shows how these funds will improve student outcomes and performance for all students.
We have held several meetings across the District to capture the input of a variety of stakeholders, including, students, staff, parents and community members. On April 25th, we will be holding a community forum at BOES from 6:00-7:00 to share our goals to date (see below) and provide another opportunity to capture the thinking of our parents and community members. We hope you will join us and share your thoughts about the future of AUSD.

CALIFORNIA SCHOOL DASHBOARD - A NEW WAY TO UNDERSTAND STUDENT SUCCESS
Each year students across California in grades 3rd-8th and 11th grade take the state standardized test, CAASPP. The results of these tests are used in a variety of way to help improve student achievement.
California is currently field testing a new website designed to help communities across the state access important information about K–12 districts and schools. Called the California School Dashboard, the site features reports on multiple measures of school success, including test scores, graduation rates, English learner progress and suspension rates. The Dashboard is part of California's new school accountability system. It is the next step in a series of major shifts in public education that have raised the bar for student learning, transformed testing and placed the focus on equity for all students.
The public launch of the Dashboard is tentatively scheduled for the week of March 13, 2017. The video below provides an excellent overview of how the "growth" idea works with the new California School Dashboard. Please also take a moment to read the article Dr. Newman wrote about the new accountability system.
