What We're Learning in Challenge
3rd and 4th Grade
With ISTEP lurking around the corner, we are focusing on reading shorter passages and citing text evidence in our responses.
This Week's Share Topic: To celebrate Presidents Day, choose one president. Find a few facts and maybe a picture of that president. Libraries, encyclopedias, and the Internet are all great places to start your research.
Next Week's Share Topic: Some people believe that "if March comes in like a lion, it will go out like a lamb (and vice versa)." Do you have an interesting experience to tell about any type of weather? Perhaps you were outside as a terrific thunderstorm was brewing. What do you do on the hottest day of the year? Maybe you know someone who has experienced a hurricane or a tornado. These are merely some possibilities. Tell us about your weather story in one of the creative ways we've been so accustomed to hearing.
I continue to be absolutely blown away by the initiative students are taking with these oral presentations. Keep up the fantastic work!
Both Classes
As you know, this nine week's independent reading project is to be from the science fiction, fantasy, or mystery genre. This book should have no fewer than 115 pages for 3rd and 4th graders or no fewer than 135 pages for 5th and 6th graders. The project, a movie poster book project, was scheduled to be due on February 26th. However, Mother Nature has forced us to delay. With the numerous school closings/delays, I have decided to postpone this due date until March 11. Details about the poster will be explained and sent home with students later this week. Students are encouraged to take an AR test on the book that has been selected for the book project in order to assist with gaining points.
