During a busy first week back from break…
HHS shared its annual school report card with all parents.
Thirteen HHS students returned safely from a vacation-week field trip to Costa Rica. Mrs. Pelliccia, the science teacher who led the trip, reports that “it was an AMAZING trip full of science, research, and adventure!! We all made it through hikes through the rainforest, a visit to a local school, whitewater rafting, rappelling down cliffs and waterfalls, and ziplining.”
Several of our winter teams competed in the early rounds of their respective statewide tournaments. Although the boys’ basketball team lost to King Philip Regional High School in Wrentham on Tuesday night, both hockey teams advanced to the next round. The sixth-seeded girls’ hockey team defeated Arlington Catholic at Pilgrim Arena on Wednesday night and the boys beat King Philip at the Canton Ice House last night; both teams will play again this weekend.
Eleven members of the HHS ski team traveled to Berkshire East Mountain Resort to compete in the state championship on Wednesday.
School counselors visited all English classes in grades 9 through 11 to discuss the course selection process.
With support from the Nan Project, all HHS teachers participated in a workshop about mental health awareness and suicide prevention on Wednesday afternoon.
HHS juniors Owen Gaul and Lily Murray were elected to represent their classmates at the annual Student Government Day, to be held at the Massachusetts State House later this month.
The HHS Drama Club offered a preview of its METG Festival One Act Play (“The Caucasian Chalk Circle”) on Wednesday night. The terrific performance further bolstered high hopes for the competition this weekend.
Looking ahead…
We hit the midpoint of the term today. This is always a good time to check progress and grades.
All students in grades 9 through 11 should begin reviewing the new Program of Studies to prepare for the course selection process. Teachers will make level recommendations in Aspen next week, and then the window will open for students to make course selections between 3/11 and 3/19.
The HHS Drama Club will compete in the first round of the METG Festival at Marshfield High School tomorrow.
HHS will host the All Town Band Concert in the gymnasium on Tuesday at 7 PM.
HMS will host the All Town Orchestra Concert on Thursday at 7 PM.
A “Prom Dress Drive” organized by HHS students began this week and will continue through 3/17. Please donate gently used floor-length prom/formal dresses in the bin by the main entrance or at the Hingham Rec Center. The dresses will be donated to a shop in Bridgewater that rents them at an affordable price to people who cannot afford a new dress.
Finally, please click this link to complete a brief survey (designed for parents, guardians and caregivers) that will help inform the district's on-going equity work. The survey will take approximately 10-minutes to complete and is based on the RECIII framework, a tool that addresses the diverse needs of students with an emphasis on school climate and culture. Your input is greatly appreciated.
The daily notices, the full school calendar, and the student newspaper, can always be viewed on the HHS website. Look for details on the website and in our weekly PTO newsletter.
Have a great weekend!

The NAN Project Returns
With help from NAN Project allies Wednesday afternoon, all HHS teachers participated in a workshop on mental health awareness and suicide prevention. There is no more urgent priority for educators today.
The Caucasian Chalk Circle
As always, Ms. Fish delivered on her promise that the audience would love the HHS Drama Club's latest production. If you missed the preview performance, or want to see it again, come to Marshfield HS tomorrow for the annual METG high school festival!
Spread The Word to End the Word
On the morning announcements this week, Cecelia Mann '23, co-president of the HHS Best Buddies club, reminded us that March 1st was “Spread the Word to End the Word” Day. As use of "the R-word" declines and disappears, our community grows stronger.
Career Exploration
Save the date! More Information to come soon about this exciting student event!
St. Andrews Visit
While visiting universities in the UK last week, HHS counselor Mrs. Savery met with Rihannon Peacock '21, now studying at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland.
Wrestling Season Concludes
Belonging to a team at HHS is always about more than playing the sport. Nobody illustrates this better than our wrestlers and their coaches, who concluded another outstanding season as February break concluded.
Mia Dineen
The future is bright for HHS sophomore Mia Dineen, who placed second in her weight class at the MA girls' statewide wrestling tournament at the end of last week.
