CHS is honored to be recognized among the best schools in the state of Arizona.
TEAMS COMPETITION
In March, the math department sent two groups of students to compete in the TEAMS competition at ASU Polytech. This competition required students to write an essay on artificial intelligence, answer 80 multiple choice questions in science, technology, math, and engineering, and create an apparatus (out of office supplies) that could lift a teddy bear out of a box. They were judged on amount of materials as well as the execution, which is a true representation of how engineering in real life works. Team B placed 1st in the state, and Team A placed 2nd in the state! Additionally, our teams placed 22nd and 28th respectively in the nation in our division. Congratulations to the following:
Team B (1st in the state): Cassandra Smith, Chris Wattananimitgul, Lydia Durrett, Kameron Dawson, Josh Kahn, Elery Martin, Jacob Pescador, and Samuel Roy
Team A (2nd in the state): Austin Schattenberg, Ricky Kelsey, Eli Schulz, Kenny Applegate, Ethan Horton, Emily Price, Haniyah Syed, Ty Rowell

Additionally, the club helped at the “Listen Up” district-wide culmination concert to support inclusion and equity throughout our schools. Well done!
IB MYP SHOWCASE
IB Middle Years Program students are 9th and 10th grade students who complete the academic requirements of honors English, a world language and a social studies elective. They produce a Personal Project that includes research on an area of personal interest. We celebrated our IB MYP 10th graders with a Personal Project Showcase and ceremony last Thursday. Students’ projects ranged from quantum physics, dealing with anxiety, analyzing baseball statistics, what to do in case of a zombie apocalypse, and so much more! We are proud of the extra effort these students have put forth.
