3rd Quarter Report Cards
Report Cards should be online after 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 19. Parents should take a good look and check for any incompletes (I's) or (F's) on the report card.
These grades must be at passing status before students can be promoted to the next grade level. According to school board policy, no students will be allowed to register for the next year until this takes place.
"Do you have a minute?"
I have had students approach me during lunch and passing times asking that question. If I don't have the time—I make sure I find time later in the day. Parents should go over their child’s grade book with them and ask how things are going in class, lunch, recess, and before and after school. If you get the feeling they could use some additional support in a class or that they need some help with unresolved conflict, have them approach anyone of their teachers.
We are here to help.
Cold & Flu Season
We “CAN” make a difference together!!!
Each year the 8th grade class participates in a service project. Participating in a service project helps people to see beyond yourself, help others in need, and give your time and energy to help others in your community. Community service can have a lot of positive effects, such as developing skills, making contacts, and allowing yourself to improve the quality of life of others. Numerous studies over the past several years have shown that volunteering isn’t just good for your mind and conscience; it’s also good for your body. By focusing on others’ problems instead of their own, people have reported reduced stress and an overall improvement in mood and health.
This year we will be participating in a food collection for our local Monticello Food Shelf and collecting toys and clothing for St. Mary’s Homeless Shelter from March 9-13. Why are we choosing this as our service project? The statistics show the real need….1 in 11 people struggle with hunger and 1 in 8 children struggle with hunger. That means we have people in our grade, our building, our community who need our help. As of January 2019, Minnesota had an estimated 7,977 experiencing homelessness on any given day. Let’s look beyond ourselves and make a difference together.
Each teacher will have a box in their classroom to collect items. We will keep track of the items donated each day. The MM with the most donated items will win donuts and juice one morning.

STUDENT CENTER SPOTLIGHT
7th Grade Wellness Day
On Friday, Feb. 21st, the 7th grade students took a break from their educational routine to explore issues surrounding adolescents at our annual Wellness Day. This year we are celebrating our 15th year of providing this powerful opportunity!
The day consisted of ten speakers from Monticello and the surrounding communities who presented on various topics such as cyber safety, healthy choices, using mindfulness to control anxiety, leadership & goal setting, legal consequences, alcohol and drug prevention, digital citizenship, suicide prevention, and healthy relationships. One session, Courage, and Resiliency, built off of the Courage Retreat students participated in earlier this fall. High school students led this session focused on using courage to be resilient as they work through conflict. Students rotated in groups to all sessions throughout the day.
Please take this opportunity to talk with your 7th grader about the impact of Wellness Day.
